Cracked open during a tasting - thanks to whomever brought this one along. Pours a ruby color, dark-red and almost brown in some spots with a thin ring of slightly-pink head topping this one off and leaving no noticeable lacing along the sides. The aroma is very pleasant, cherry-oak flavors clash and mingle quite well, leading way to a bigger collage of berries; tart, sour, and sweet all at once. Moderate berries and grapes on the nose, as well, though the cherries are clearly the start of the show here, as expected (...CERISE, fucking duh). The oaky aroma definitely gets stronger as this one gets a little warmer.

But surprisingly enough, the oak is much more subdued on the palate, which is mildly upsetting. It's definitely there, but certainly plays tertiary to many of the other flavors. Fruits are the heaviest thing here - ripe cherries, green apples, berries; very, very sour and tart, nearly puckering. The tartness lasts for quite a while before it settles down and mellows out into a fruit-laden sweetness. There's a very light wet-wood flavor on the tail end - again, I wish this oak character was a bit stronger, I think it would work well with the sour cherries. Some cork flavors in the finish as well, feigning a slightly mild funky flavor... Was this brewed with brett yeast? I didn't think so, but this faint funky flavor tells me otherwise. Thin-medium body with a medium amount of carbonation.

I enjoyed this one quite a bit, although I am very partial to cherries - one of my favorite fruits. Nice tartness, good sour elements, and an oak aroma that I wish came out a bit more on the palate. Light funk at the end ties everything together. I'd love to have this one again.

750 ml bottle shared with a friend. Poured into a red solo cup (was the only thing at hand).

A: Dark red/brownish color. Tiny white head as we poured.
S: Tons of sour cherries, oak, some grape and funk. Smells great.
T: Quite sour but probably lower than other Cascade beers. Wood tannins, wine-like flavors, sour cherries, slight vinegar-like flavor.
M: Medium bodied with low carbonation. Carbonation was not bad but I would have liked a bit more.
O: Great beer but definitely not Cascade's best. Still worth trying in my opinion.

750ml bottle, split, hill farmstead stemware

from notes

"This NW style sour ale is the Cerise Nouveau of cherry beers. It's a blend of red ales aged in oak barrels for up to eight months, then aged on fresh Bing cherries for an additional three months. "

Dark. More sweet than sour, really. Balsamic. Layers and layers of cherries - nowhere near as complex as sang noir/rouge/royal. In the endless array of fruit-forward Cascade beers, this wasnt one of the better ones.

750 mL bottle poured into a snifter. Reviewed from notes.

Appearance - Bright blood red. No head. Just a few stray bubbles.

Smell - Wow, cherries. Cherry pie sweet and tart aroma. Malty and kinda musty.

Taste - More sour, but it's mostly sour cherry sourness. Less sweet than the smell suggests. Musty and grainy malts more prominent. Sour, but it dies down with the malty sweetness.

Mouthfeel - Low carbonation. Medium heavy, even a little syrupy.

Overall - Excellent cherry flavor. If you're into the intense fruit beers, this is good stuff.

Recently purchased bottle from the Raccoon Lodge, drank with daftcaskbc.

Appearance. Pours a deep maroon with barely a skim of head.

Smell. Sour cherries! There's a little light yeast, red grape, and a good amount of wood.

Taste. Quite sour, tart cherries, lots of tannic wood and some dry yeast.

Mouthfeel. Medium+ body, low carbonation.

Overall. Sour and nicely fruity with lots of wood. Nothing wrong with that!

A-Deep ruby in the glass, not much carbonation.

S-Cherries, lots of them. Caramel, the red ale base is present and there is a slight oak note.

T-Nice sour notes and cherries, oak is there and once again a bit of the red ale base comes through.

M-Medium bodied, well carbonated.

O-A good sour, the red ale base added some depth to the beer but nothing spectacular.
