2014 edition on tap in June 2016 at the brewpub in Portland. Lovely red-orange body that sparkles with highlights and is covered by a fine white head. High level of tartness that goes well with the boozy (whisky) and fruity Some significant cherries in the aroma elevate the aroma well above an average sour.

Beautiful looking beer, like a crystal red hue and white head that hangs and leaves a good lace.

I smell lots of cherries, and can taste the Belgian base, but I'm not getting much bourbon on this. It's a 2014 vintage so maybe it's fallen off, but regardless it's really smooth, rich flavors and easy to drink.

A: Lots of deep baked cherry pie like aroma, overlaid with a light almond and bourbon character, light wood, with a moderate sourness.

A: Maroon color with a light pink hue, clear, with a frothy white head that is mostly even, dissipates quickly to a thin ring around the glass. There is light lacing left.

T: Lots of deep baked cherry pie flavor, moderate toasted almond, bourbon character with a lingering moderate sourness.

M: Full bodied with moderate carbonation. There is a light, pleasing acidity.

O: Super tasty; the beer has an excellent deep baked cherry pie aroma and flavor, with a light toasted almond character that is well complimented by the bourbon and sourness.

cascade has some unreal processes that go into these beers. what a treat it is to finally get to have this one at the source. i couldnt believe the color, its nearly electric pink, like the color of the little cocktail cherries you get in a shirley temple or something, almost not even real. this one has a better head than some of the others there, just light rose pink. it smells great, the cherry is sweet but the beer is sour, a cool back and forth there, and my mouth really waters. this is one of those base beers i would love to have them release, a blonde quad in bourbon, i think that would be fun in its own right. this is so dressed up with other things, its hard to all the way appreciate the base beer. huge bourbon on this, a nice cherry vanilla complexion develops out of that, and im not sure what the peach pits add, but there is a nice sort of hearty woodiness to this, as well as an orchard fruit element, although its certainly not peachy. i love the lighter body on a beer so strong, and even though its a little boozy, it drinks sort of light. sweet though all through it, and quite sour as it works toward the finish. this one has so many layers. the cherries for me are almost the weak link, they seem too sweet and too powerful in front of some of the more mellow elements in the beer, but this is the land of cherries, and its also nice to showcase them so flamboyantly. another one of a kind beer from cascade. 2014 edition.

2014 project

Perhaps a bit of a lighter/cloudier manhatton in color, not the caramel colors of bourbon per say but the reddish hue is certainly on the darker side. Head depends on your pour, but my top off I just did leaves a nice thin cream head just barely floating above the beer.

The nose is very strong on this, providing ample cherry notes, a lot of sugary sour candy like elements, and yes there is a distinct touch of bourbon far in the back.

The flavor opens with sweet cherry candy with a hint of tartness, moves on to a bit of a vanilla and perhaps even a caramel hint, followed by what could be seen as a touch of bourbon's sweetness and oak. The beer the finishes sour to tart and the sour cherry flavor lingers for a moment before it leaves you with a hard candy cherry after taste. Complex is the right word, but the start to finish tasting of this is pretty interesting as you'll go from the extremes of a candy to a sour back to a candy with some very interesting hints of what I can only assume came from the bourbon barrel, but certainly out of character flavors per a cherry sour, but very much great additions to this one!

I'd never have guessed this is 11% drinking it. There might be a burn at the end, but I'm calling that the acid from the sour. This one is going WAY too fast for a 38 dollar beer!

If not for the price, I'd buy this again in a heart beat. With price in mind, this is a bit too expensive for the experience. I'd certainly recommend it to a fried who I KNEW this was a good call for. For most, this is a sad beer I'd say to pass on due to price. Though if you can split it a few days a little will go a long way. Over all great beer but not a MUST have due to price.

Pink hued orange sour.

Sour and tart. Lots of fruit flavors. Cherries, strawberries, cranberries. Some vanilla and oak. Not too much bourbon.

Light bodied for how strong it is.

Nice beer that is very sour but still complex.

Enjoyed at the brewery. I had the 2011, 2013 and 2014 in a vertical tasting, so this is an averaging.

A: Rich ruby/burgundy clear color with a hint of off-white head that turned to a ring.

S: Cherries dominating with dates and raisins in the perimeter. A bourbon backbone from the aging.

T: Tart and sweet with a cherry/cough syrup-y opening that smooths out to Heaven Hill bourbon and oak. A nice sour finish.

M: Low to medium with medium, dry carbonation.

O: I think the 2011 was smoothest of the three. Although they all tasted similar and excellent. An intense sipper.
