on-tap @ Cascade, "live from the barrel"
Interesting beer, not very cascade-like. Creamy carbonation, subtle notes of vanilla, oak and creme. Lightly floral and minimally tart, actually. I'm not sure where this beer originates from, but it would be a nice one to blend with and further experiment with various barrels.

Gravity pour from a live barrel into a tulip glass at Cascade Barrel House in Portland.
A: Clear, light amber color with one finger of persistent off-white foam head. Light lacing remains on the glass.
S: Slightly acetic, with nuanced rustic grain; mild overall. Oak qualities are lacking.
T: Begins dry, with soft tartness and delicate floral/young oak threads. Bright apple and pear fruit develop during the middle. Flavors tend to retreat in the finish.
M: Thin viscosity, acidity builds on the palate, with low carbonation.
D/O: Simple yet beguiling, this sour ale presents taut, modest tartness surrounded by a sensory profile that is fairly clean otherwise. Oak is under-represented for the treatment, considering that it spent 16 months in the barrel. For conversation's sake, it falls close to a fresh plain lambic.
