Style: American IPA

Alcohol by volume (ABV): 6.90%

Availability: Year-round

Notes / Commercial Description:
Bold, complex flavors with a solid malt backbone and assertive hop profile, along with cold conditioning, give this beer its crisp, clean, hoppy finish. Deep amber-to-orangish in color, Stowaway pours with a nice, creamy head; a huge hop aroma of citrus, pine and grapefruit notes; and a big, complex, and intense hop flavor from the 5 different hop varieties and double-dry-hopping procedure used in making this beer. The malt flavor up-front turns dry and crisp; Stowaway is full-bodied but with a dry finish and pleasant, long-lasting, hop aftertaste. This I.P.A. definitely leaves you wanting more.

This beer has pine and honey on the nose. Taste of a dry hopped beer. Pine, sweet, honey, good taste. Bitter pine on the back, but not overwhelmingly so. A: Color is orange with a cone of cloudy dark orange in the middle, making a cylinder. Good beer overall.

Pours a golden yellow with no head. Smell isn't overpowering. Not super floral. Taste is nice and smooth. Tastes more malty than anything. Could easily drink several without complaint. Not bitter at all.

Wife's review: "Pleasantly surprised. Smooth and tasty. Even the aftertaste is nice."

Grabbed a 12mixer of Baxter on my first trip across the VT border.
I really like the can design, first of all. Great packaging. Pours darker than what I'm used to, fresh out of the car from Denver. The hops don't present so much forwardness in the nose. I'm getting more of a forest feel with some wet earth and mushrooms, which I haven't smelled in a long time. The bitterness is there, just in a different form. I'm used to an onslaught of west coast citrus, but this one has similar bitterness that creeps in with subtler forest flavors. Dense earth and pine flavors like a real forest not tuned up to 11. Honestly, I like the insidious bitter creepage of the hops that just lingers in a way that palate cleansing west coast IPA doesn't have. An adjustment from west coast IPA, but very, very good.

Woody-brown in color, with a 1-finger ecru head. Minimal lacing. Slightly hazy in texture. Aromas of earth, pine and floral hops, and a touch of malt. Inviting, if down-played aromas. Flavors of hops and alcohol esters are largely prevalent, with a toasted malt spine. Notes of lavender, pine cones, a touch of soap, earth and alcohol. A chewy, gritty feel mostly throughout with a touch of hotness and a definitive robustness. Overall it's a decent IPA, but better exist and there should not be this much alcohol present in the flavors at just under 7% abv in my opinion.
