Can poured into an Alchemist strange glass. Canned on 11/14/12.
A: Dark dark black with a good 2 inch head. No light is getting through this.
S: Good kick off burnt coffee and chocolate with the vanilla beans coming through.
T: Vanilla is strong on the backend. There is a really nice roastiness to this beer. Maybe a little cherry in there as well.
M: This is a full bodied stout without being syrupy. I like that there is a chewiness to it.
This was a pleasant surprise! I would definite be happy with a few of these on a cold evening.
On a side note, I like the packaging of the can with all of the places to take a canned beer around the rim.

Absolutely opaque black with an impressive brown head that settles to a sturdy top layer with serious lacing. Looks promising. The aroma delivers a nice deep chocolate malt with hazelnut coffee and some vanilla and some light herbal hop edges. I think it smells terrific. The first taste offers a bit more coffee heavy flavors, roasted coffee, almost burned grounds with a somewhat sharp edge yet the mellow, deep malt holds it together nicely for something that invites the big gulp approach. There's some subtle seaweed sort of grass hop in the background that makes it interesting along with a charcoal finish. Perhaps more notable is the near full body and thick, silky feel accented with a bit of fine carbonation sparkle for some contrast. I don't know, this seems like a pretty damn good stout and one I could drink a few of easily when in a malt-bomb mood. It's interesting without being especially complex and delivers the nice dark punch I look for in a stout. I'm quite pleased by this nice stout to ride shotgun to my favorite IPA, Stowaway. Nice work Baxter!

12 ounce can with canned on dating on the bottom (11-14)
Pours very dark brown, but not black. Erects a dark mocha head, that stays forever. before leaving gobs of fine sheeting and lace. Stout looking indeed.
Rich chocolate and coffee sniff with hints of vanilla and coconut.
On the palate and mouth this stuff is richly coating and a full assault missile on the taste buds. Waves of chocolate, black coffee, and again vanilla. Thick and chewy. Big and brash. Not for the weak. Stout lovers go get some.

Appearance: moderate carbonation, 1 inch head, opaque, black in color
Smell: cocoa, chocolate, Bosco chocolate syrup
Taste: chocolate, Bosco chocolate syrup, coffee, light vanilla
Mouthfeel: Sweet with a roasty body, medium body, moderate carbonation
Overall: An average to above average export stout. There is not anything bad about this stout, but not much jumps out to me either. That said it was a good sipper that I had a coupe of during a snowy football watching day.

I had no idea on what to expect from this stout. Just the name, the famous, or should say infamous Phantom punch by Alli!
I love my stouts and I did enjoy this.
It may not be as rich and creaming as some of the other 'big' guys, but this came close in all other aspects.
I could not detect any coffee or chocolate overtones here.
The price is right, the taste is good, I would love to hear its name over and over. The Phantom ,, the punch that rocked the world.
Try it,

DATE: December 15, 2016... OCCASION: Truly in the Christmas spirit after the LVR chorus/band concert, I toast their efforts with a winter welcomer... GLASSWARE: Samuel Smith pint... pours a fizzing three fingers of chunky, cratered brown head that sits atop a jet-black body... lacing is attractively etched in camo designs... a robust blast of cocoa begins the profile, with a toasted malt sense and peat that evokes scotch... some alcoholic phenols escape... the first sip scorches with heat at the throat, but softens to a warm, pleasant aftertaste... a cola consistency prevails, with an oily entrance and a milky end... cocoa, yes, and subtle vanilla, lactic hints of milk, peat and some earthy vegetable...the flavor profile is solid, not spectacular... creates a taut, enjoyable experience that is not as much of a punch as advertised...

12oz can. Black with a smooth and creamy looking mocha colored head. This stays rich and frothy with some thick lacing. Smells of roast, cocoa, vanilla and weird hop presence that I guess is coming off like a kind of Noble hop? It definitely has spiciness to it. The taste is similar but does seem to do a little better, with a decent balance of roasted malts, a sweet combo of cocoa and vanilla and then a tingle of earthy and spicy citric hops. Dry and bitter on the finish with some lingering smoke. The feel is medium bodied with a crisp creaminess in the mouth that flows well. Just a smidge of warmth is present and this is overall pretty smooth. This was decent but the weirdness of the aroma kind of put a damper on things. I’d maybe check a can out of this but it really isn’t worth picking up multiples of.

Canned on 11/14/12
received as an extra from trade with IPAkindaguy, Thanks, man!
Poured into a standard tulip.
Appearance: Pours a very dark brown verging on black, a thick 3 finger beige head sprouts up quickly enough and lasts for quite some time, leaving some very nice lace down the sides of the glass as it slowly recedes. Nice looking brew.
Aroma: Huge, creamy notes of sweet milk chocolate, vanilla bean, roasted malts, lightly roasted coffee and a light herbal hoppiness manifests itself in the roasted malt profile very nicely. Wow, this really smells like a chocolate milkshake.
Taste: The stout opens with a whisper of light grassy hops before you're hit with notes of dark chocolate, roasted malts and some coffee. The beer finishes dry, but leaves you with welcome notes of creamy, yet bitter chocolate and roasted notes of malt, nuts and coffee left loitering on your palate.
Mouthfeel: Medium bodied and slightly creamy with moderate to high carbonation.
Overall: This is a very good, easy drinking, chocolate forward stout that I wish was made more readily available to me. The flavors are deep and rich, yet this stout is oddly refreshing. Really solid, although not knock your socks of flavor. Recommended for a fairly session-able, full flavored stout.

Pours a dark, dark brown with a light brown head. Plenty of lacing once the head dissipates. Smell is not too strong, but you get whiff of roasted malts, chocolate and espresso. The taste consists of dark chocolate and roasted malts. Slight metallic taste probably from the can. Medium body with some carbonation. Sticky on the lips too. A decent local stout, but I think it could be a lot better.
