Drank from my Duvel Tulip

A - Poured a cloudy copper colour with a small head that almost disappears immediately with no lacing. Looks very ordinary and flat

S - Get some sweet malts with a hint of dark fruit but nothing really over the top

T - A little bland in taste, a little bready sweet malt up front followed by a dry bitter and some what metallic finish.

M - Low carbonation which seems almost flat and seems very watery in body.

O - Very disappointed attempt at IPA. In appearance alone I sort of knew that this will just not cut it as a beer. A very bland taste that leaves that awful taste in the mouth at the end.

Yes, that's not a typo in the name, it genuinely says "Indian Pale Ale" on the label. Sigh. An inauspicious start from a brewery I want to be better.

Pours a deep coppery orange colour, with almost no head, just a fizzle on the pour. Looks limp and flat, and very underwhelming. (For what it's worth, my Dad left the bottle sitting out for four hours or so and swore it poured better after being exposed to the elements for a while—perhaps it undertook some quick spontaneous fermentation...)

Nose is rather grainy and almost toasty, giving some darker characters to the mix. There's a whiff of cocoa to it as well. Very minimal hop character: a bit of grass, some tea leaf—earthy, but not particularly robust.

Taste is similar. A bit of graininess giving a wholemeal bread character, some cooked veggies, and some frozen peas. Almost a touch of banana esters. No bitterness, no hop flavour. No, no, no... Please, not like this.

Overall, it's not a beer you'd be able to say is "hoppy", which is a bad sign for an India Pale Ale (or an Indian Pale Ale). Worse is that this gives prospective beer geeks a bad impression of a wonderful style.

Not a good IPA, and struggling to even be a good beer.
