Very little carb. Very nice malt forward with caramel sweetness but a very off putting bitter aftertaste. Very well hidden 13% but the couple mouthfeel and after taste kinda ruin it for me.

Deep chestnut brown with a very small light tan head that settled quickly. The smallest bit of spotty lacing. Sweet caramel, Peppery and bourbon whiskey. The bourbon is definitely the first thing you taste. No real hops flavor, pretty usual for Barleywines. Bourbon and pepper are the most prominent flavors. you do feels the 13% ABV...Enjoy!!

Appearance - The beer was a blackish brown color with no head noted.

Smell - The booze really makes an impression in the aroma as though this were a spirit rather than a barrel aged beer.

Taste - The beer starts out boozy but seems to evolve into a straight shot of alcohol. This one fits the definition of "hot". I really could not detect much beyond the booze, whether malts or hops.

Mouthfeel - The thickness of a barleywine was close, but loses steam amid the burn.

Overall - I brought this to a bottle share with cabernet aged version. The carbernet version was the winner.

Poured from 22 oz bomber into Old Guardian glass. Bottle on 6/26/2014.

A: Deep chestnut brown with a very small light tan head that settled quickly. The smallest bit of spotty lacing but decent considering how little head there was to start with.

S: Sweet caramel, raisin, dates, cherries, and whiskey. Perhaps a hint of a peppery spice.

T: Lots of bourbon flavor up front. This one is pretty hot. If I get another bottle, I will definitely let it age for a while. Some sweet dark fruits. Black cherry, currants. Not getting much oak flavor from the barrel. Like most English style barleywines, no discernable hops to be found. Getting much more fruit flavors and spice after it warmed towards room temperature.

M: Full bodied but not overly thick. ABV is very apparent. Very low carbonation, coming off almost flat at times. Leaves a bit of sweetness of the tongue.

O: A very nice barrel aged barleywine. It's a little hot, and a little under carbonated for my tastes but enjoyable still.
