Runabout Red AleRunabout Red Ale
Notes: Runabout Red Ale is a classic! Our Red Ale has a malty sweet taste that comes from 3 different types of caramel malt. It is a clean, well-balanced beer that started as seasonal ale that we only brewed from March until July. It was so popular with our regulars that we started brewing it year round in 2002. Our red ale is made with only two hop additions to the kettle as opposed to three in most of our other brews and the malt character shows this. Please enjoy our staff favorite!

Had as a pour at the Portland location. Had a thin head that left a bit of lacy white foam on the sides of the glass. Color was rust-red with a moderate degree of opaqueness. Scent and taste were both malty up front with a bit of hop notes on either side. I found myself desiring the beer to have either more maltiness or more hoppiness in both taste and smell and found the end result was a beer that hewed too close to the middle of both flavor profiles to have either really jump out.

Bottle. Clear amber with a thin head.
Sweet caramel malt and hops. Light leaf and grain.
Mild malt flavour. Leaning towards sweetness.
Medium body. Light carbonation.
A reasonably refined red ale.

On tap at Sebago. Pours red with fluffy white head and nice lacing. Aroma is of some hops, caramel malt and red fruit. Body is medium and crisp. Earthy hops, caramel malt and ripe fruit nicely balanced on the pallet. Finish is long and earthy. Overall it is nice session brew.

I'm partial to Red's and this is probably my favorite.
Look: Pours a beautiful red brown with carbonation clinging to the glass and a moderate bubbly off white head
Smell: Slightly malty and sweet on a background of piney hops
Taste: Crystal and caramel malt prevails without becoming to sweet, a light hop bitterness balances and compliments the malts
Feel: Moderate carbonation, crisp and clean
Overall: A wonderful red, malt forward with a nice balance of hops, light crisp and refreshing. Love this beer chilled down on a summer day.

Pours an opaque mid-deep amber producing 1.5 fingers of frothy, beige, shortlived head that leaves rings, streaks & motes of lace. Aroma is lightly malt forward brown bread, toast & thin caramel/toffee & faint floral hops. Taste is slightly more intense toasted, bready, caramel malt & hoppiness brought forth as some bitterness in the finish that lingers in the sweet aftertaste. Mouthfeel is light-medium bodied with moderate carbonation, thin but with a light coating creaminess, prickly on both the tongue & palate. I have tried this on three sperate occasions & each time the brew has been divergent in consistency. Head size, duration & lacing as well as aroma & taste seem variable over time from one purchase to another.
