I think the label on this one is a bit misleading. When I saw Bonfire, I was expecting more smoke. While I can smell fire slightly, any smoke quality disappeared in the flavor. The result is a decent hoppy beer with distinct rye at the end. I have had better and worse rye beers. Certainly worth a try if you like the style, just do not expect much bonfire.

Appearance - Pours with a finger-width off-white/cream-colored head. Head slowly disappears while leaving behind some lacing around the edges. The beer is copper in color with a tint of brown highlights and a slight cloudiness to it.

Aroma - Combination of hops and malts come to the nose upfront. Resinous hops tend to overtake the malt base I was expecting from the rye.

Taste - Again, resinous hops up front followed by the smokiness and earthiness of the rye malts.

Mouthfeel - Light carbonation on the tip of the tongue. It has a medium body with a little bit of bitterness from hop profile.

Overall - A good beer for the price, but was expecting a little bit more on the rye side and not so much from the hops.

This was poured into a becher pint glass. The appearance was a transparent dry dark amber color with a thin cap of a white little head. Mild messy lacing. The aroma takes in mildly sweet to spicy rye initially and then some citrus and piney playing with a sly sweet caramel malty sweetness. The flavor takes in all of the previously mentioned aromas to blend and then give give that kick of the spice in the aftertaste bumps and then bites into the finish. On the palate, this one sits about a light to medium on the body with a nice sessionability about it. Carbonation feels fairly low. Overall, another nice beer by Sebago, always a solid brewery.

Pours a copper, light brown color with a small airy head.

The aroma is hoppy with a spicy rye malt. A piney lemony twang from the hops and a peppery bready note from the malt.

The taste is of a bready malt. Notes of brown bread and rye. A little nutty Noticeable rye flavor. The hops are piney and savory, some dankness.

The feel is moderate with prickly carbonation. Sweet to start but finishes bitter and slightly dry.

A nice flavorful IPA. The rye provides some good depth.

Served from a single bottle into a pint glass. 10/9

Pours medium copper brown with no foam. Light to dark. Sweet malt, bready. Strong rye flavor. Bursting hop with pine background. Well balanced malt and hop. Firm bitter. Surprisingly good. Enjoyed more than I expected to.

From the 12 fl. oz. bottle with no noticeable date. Sampled on October 19, 2013.

This pours a medium to dark amber and quite cloudy with a small off-white head.

They say this is a rye ale "stoked with hops" and they are not lying. Instead of grains and rye I get an overpowering floral hop aroma. So much so that it reminds me more of an IPA.

The body is medium.

The taste is just as hopped as the aroma although I do pick up a bit more grain and malty characters on my palate than on my nose. A little different than other ryes I have tried.

Pours an amber color with touches of orange and brown shining through at different parts, smallish off-white head fades at a decent rate but doesn't leave much for lacing.

Smell has a nicely done spicy rye character, toffee and caramel malt backing, very subtle pine hopping.

Taste starts out with the spiciness of the rye, the malt backing smooths things over, finishes with a decent bitterness of mostly piney hops, carbonation is nice and active but not too much, lends a good creamy body to the beer.

A-Slightly hazy amber/brown. Off-white head. Left moderate lacing.
S-Caramel, biscuit, earthy hops.
T-Hops battle with the malt right away. Very little spiciness from the rye. Didn't detect much smoke.
M-Light body, medium carb.
O-A nice change up for a fall beer.
