Well it's more on the spices that I would have thought. Orange blossom, coriander and other spices. The malt is big too with some caramel notes. A good beer but not a great one

500ml bottle poured into a snifter

A- pours a deep brown color with a thin foamy white head that reduces to leave nothing behind.

S- sweet caramel and fig up front with undertones of fresh oak, coriander & peppercorn

T- sweet caramel and toffee up front give way to spicy coriander and light woody/earthy oak. Finishes with more caramel and a peppery linger

M- medium body and carbonation leads to a creamy mouthfeel and finish

O- a classic scotch ale that goes down way too easy

Pours a dark brown close to black and yields the same colored body, the head was about a slim finger’s worth of white foaminess, lacing is adequate and graces the sides of the glass in a spider web sort of fashion; the smell is a rich sort of sweet somewhat cherished coriander-ish aroma, it wants to creep up on ya with some odd oaky molasses that ends up shouldering into some dark fruit but for the most part, they pretty much stay subdued; I do get some black licorice coming through as well; the taste has a rich sweetness in there and then the spicy coriander comes through to help to balance it just a bit, there is some black licorice as well; am I getting a "whiskey" sort of background in the taste - in my opinion, I think so, slightly sweet molasses aftertaste and that leads into a super dry molasses finish; on the palate, well, its not as easy as some might want it to be, but its not too heavy, however, there is a decent coating of black licorice penetrating the mouth and tongue; overall, I would say a pretty good Scotch Ale that I would have again especially with that coriander coming out to add a slight spice.

Pours a deep cola with a fizzy carbonation that dissipates quickly. Aroma has some dark fruit phenols and definitely some coriander spice, though that too fades rapidly. Taste is good but lacking a certain depth. Lots of ethel phenol notes upfront to give it that Scotch style flavor, the coriander is there but doesn't add too much outside a faint spice, nor does the oak. Caramel malt pokes through now and again. Mouthfeel is fine.

Clear, dark mahogany colored with a very thin head and no lacing on the glass.

Nose: Caramel malt, fudge, brown sugar, molasses, dark fruit, coffee and vanilla.
Taste: A lot of malt in the taste. Caramel, dried fruit, raisin, plum, oak and brown sugar.
Mouth: Medium body and carbonation. Crisp.

1000th review.
Deep chestnut. Thin wispy head which nevertheless provides a nice halo effect around the edge of the goblet.
Rich stoned fruit aroma. Toffee. Rum and raisin fudge. Alcohol apparent but not boozy.
Toffee apple sweetness. Mild malt biscuit. Spice is present but melds well into the other flavours.
Beautiful soft carbonation is somewhat spoiled by a cloying texture.

Berries, cocoa, and coffee in the aroma. Toast and that typical mineral note I've found in scotch ales from Scotland. Sarsaparilla, cola, pumpernickel bread.

Pours nearly black with auburn highlights and a thin light tan head. Some lacing, little retention.

Burst of juicy fruits upfront with berries and pear rounded off with roasty bitterness, toast, and cocoa. Plum and raisin. Light notes of herbal tea. A scotch ale with coriander sounded a bit odd to me, but it adds just a subtle herbal fruity quality.

Full, rich, juicy, without being heavy or cloying. Medium low carbonation. Dry, minerally finish.

Just great, though I feel I'm cheating the beer without pairing it with food. It definitely craves it.
