The Rare "Sly" Fox lies about 10km West of Brussels. Located at the bottom of the Market Place in Schepdaal this is one of a handful of classic Payottenland Cafes that should not be missed. The almost understated facade complete with signs from the long-gone De Neve Brewery (now "created" by Belle-Vue) belies a real gem. The Cafe comprises a lovely traditional main bar, with rooms to the sides and back, though these are overspill areas used mainly for the restaurant. Nevertheless, they still seat well over a hundred people. Girardin supply the draft old and new lambics, often served from the jug. Try the House Beer, Rare Vos (5.5% ABV), a unique blend of lambic and faro also from Girardin. Apart from the great range of traditional lambic beers, there are about 30-40 others - but why bother?. The food is to die for. Local specialities and beer cuisine are very popular, and the Tavern can become full at weekends. I tried the Horse Steak Stew and the Konijn (Pigeon), both cooked in Gueuze, and superb. The place for Lambic Lovers and Gueuze Monsters. There are not many of these Payottenland Classic Taverns left - visit them before they dissappear.
