25.4 oz. bottle poured into tulip
(Blend No. 1 -- March 2016)
L: misty orange-amber gold, about 60-75% clear, pushes up a dense, thick head of offwhite/beige foam formed of the tiniest bubbles; keeps a turtleneck high collar of offwhite/beige foam, and if you let the glass sit for a minute, the massive amount of activity in the glass coats the surface with a full skin; it sticks and laces some, too ... a gorgeous show!
S: funky skunky honey orange sweet oysters ... wow! there's a lot here and it's still ice cold; as it warms, tart cranberries, malty bread dough; tart raspberry cheesecake; the sweeter notes dominate, but underneath them you can detect some Jester King barn must, some old dried grain sacks -- the farmhouse notes are subdued; strawberry tart with the pastry cream
T: it's barn musty funky and abbey ale fruity at once, tart orange, tart strawberry, tart raspberry with some grain sacks and a pinch of lemon peel, spiced occasionally by some pepper, then sweeter with plum and sweet pastry cream, only a pinch of that, and a hint of Jester King's aged hop
F: end result is a perfect middleweight, but the ride to that point is amazing ... very light liquid, not watery but close, filled out by all those tiny bubbles that expand and give the quaff an outside softness surrounding an inner weight; a true Belgian-inspired masterpiece
O: honestly, I don't know what more one could ask -- this beer is a perfect union of church and farm; the standard Jester King farmhouse aromas and flavors run throughout the experience, but those notes, though strong enough to enjoy, are just weak enough and spread out enough to allow for some abbey ale sweeter notes, plum, peach, light sweet dates ... and then the pinch of tripel-like spice, pepper, something from that coriander; one might quibble with each of the four attributes but the sum of this one is perfect

750ml corked and capped bottle poured into a snifter appears a dark copper color with light khaki head. Jester King recently put sales of this on hold as it has become ropey but that didnt stop me from wanting to try it. Indeed it pours thick like shampoo.
Aroma has pleasant citrus aspect then some honey-like sweetness, slightly floral and earthy with almost a hint of butter and grain.
Taste is tart with citrus rinds, floral and slight herbal to grassiness and bitterness with a contrasting biscuit-like fresh grain/bready maltiness.
Thick in the feel with modest carbonation. This is a very enjoyable beverage, im glad I have a couple to sample and observe its progression.

750 ml capped and corked bottle, Blend #1 03.22.2016. Served in a Prairie Teku, the beer pours a hazy golden orange color with about an inch off-white head. Head retention and lacing are both good. Aroma is nice, the brew smells like lemon, apricot, coriander, earthiness, bready/grainy malt, and some honey. Taste is similar to the aroma with lemon, apricot, citrus peel, earthy, bready/grainy malt, peppery spice and white grape flavors. Good amount of tartness in this brew. Mouthfeel/body is medium, it's easy to drink with a good amount of carbonation. I liked this brew a lot, glad I picked this up! Definitely worth getting a bottle if you see one, I just bought this a month or so ago so it's still around in places.

The flavors of black truffle was what really got me here. I love truffle in my food but I thought it made the beer too savory. I also did not enjoy the higher ABV for a saison than I'm used to. It is a Fantôme saison, so I understand the weirdness a bit more...

A bit ropey as JK mentioned and pulled it for, but I still thought it was pretty nice. Looking forward to aging my bottles.

A wonderful amalgam of jester king an fantome. I know this was recalled due to "ropiness" but i did not detect this at all. The capped and corked bottle pours a tangy dark liquid. The taste is a adds eurpean tang to the jester king funk with a nice bitterness at the end. Very good

This one drinks a lot like a traditional Belgian saison. It has a nice little bite on the finish and the mouthfeel is perfect for the style. This is a very refreshing beer.
