Notes / Commercial Description:
CRU-55 is our "grand cru" version of RU-55 Barrel Aged Sour Red Ale. For Blend 2 - 2018, we aged RU-55 for 26 months in Pinot Noir Barrels. Soft, elegant acidity slowly developed over time as the beer took on a vinous character.

Even after a full pour, this is a surprisingly clear acorn lacquer: reddish-black topped with a quiet, soft fuzzy tan blanket fading to a persistent collar.

Smell is charred oak and toasty sesame with a whole slew of different cherry characteristics that are mostly complex and aged, accented by a touch of balsamic and black pepper.

Taste is much smoother and less harsh than I expected, as the regular has been quite sharp and funky in my past experiences. While it's quite woody up front, that easily melds into a cherry and red grape tartness, with a touch of smoke, fresh tobacco, and dark red wine tannin.

3 years in a barrel, 2 years in a bottle, and CRU-55 has an excellent, moderate body with a soft fizz that leads into a dry, slightly chewy finish.

If they ever do this again, (and they totally should if they have the space), this was "barrel 487," 2016 vintage

I loved the 2016 sherry RU55, and was hoping to love this even more. While it has a very nice complex flavor profile, the overall beer has some harsh notes that dont blend well and its not up to snuff for my expectations. After 3 years in a barrel, this should be ultra smooth. Close but no cigar

CRU55 was quaffable AF! Soft acidity, balanced tartness. Just an entire different beer than RU55. One of the best JK beers I've ever had - hands down best Flanders Red I've had.

It was so complex: pink lady apple, Pinot Noir, oak, cola, cherry gum, caramel, tart strawberry, aged Modena vinegar.

This is a mellowed out RU-55 that brings a much more complex flavor profile and some added body. Comes right out of the bottle easy to drink and starts to open up and the oak flavors kick in. Really nice!

Murky burgundy in the glass with bubbly beige head. Aroma is creamy rich cherry and oak, slightly phenolic, taste is tart Flanders with huge cream and oak on the back end. Linger is understated and soft. RU55 if it were doping in preparation for the olympics. Awesome.
