Thank you Jake for this one! Greatly, greatly appreciated.
Blend 2 - 2018 (9% ABV) - 500ml bottle - poured into a Jester King balloon stem at 45°F.
Pours a beautiful brilliant garnet red, resembling cranberry juice in the glass. Zero head, zero bubbles, zero collar, and completely lifeless, save the lazily rising bubbles.
Nose: In classic Jester King style, there's a really nice, albeit quite subtle base of sweet toasty grains - crackery, serving as a clean platform for the fruit. The grapes are absolutely massive here, yet not over-saturated. Ripe, jammy red wine grapes - fairly fermented, with notes of blackberry and rasoberry - seedy, stemmy, with some black pepper and vanilla. A whisper of red wine vinegar, some sweaty brett, a touch of funky bleu cheese, rounded by some subtle farmhouse notes of wet hay, leather, and dusty stable.
Palate: Birra di Sangiovese greets the palate with a restrained grainy sweetness and some toasted wheat. The acidity is remarkably restrained - not sour, barely tart, but more of bretty tang with a hint of lemon, and a thin thread of bleu cheese. The grapes open up with some subtle blackberry, red currant, and gooseberry notes before shifting into peppery, bold, and quite tannic Sangiovese grape. Grape skins and some twiggy, stemmy, seedy notes lend a big kick of tannins that progress further and further into dry red wine, with a subtle undercurrent of fleshy Morello cherry and some spice notes. Notes of black pepper, grapeseed, and plum pit peak to a bitingly tannic, lingering bitter finish, backed by some dry white oak and clean grains.
Mouthfeel/Body: At 9% ABV, the body is surprisingly light and crisp, with little-to-no malt weight to speak of. The fruit, while not 100% dry, lends very little weight either, so the ale remains fairly light-bodied, fluid, and thin. Semi-dry, with a calm, relaxed, loose effervescence. Drying, semi-astringent, and highly tannic finish.
Overall: The overall structure is very much Jester King. The focus on the grain, along with the mild acidity really makes for a fantastic base beer. The subtle bleu cheese wild note is a nice touch. I'd even say that the level of fruit is close to its sweet spot, but these just happen to be some insanely tannic grapes, which lends a little more bitterness than is desired. It's tasteful, elegant, and reserved, but the tannic character does cut into the overall enjoyment. Everything else is composed and complete. A solid offering.

Lots of red wine notes with farmhouse and earthy yeasty notes. Tart and puckering.

Vibrant ruby red, slightly hazy, with a short, bubbly white blanket.
This has an exceptionally woody funk that exhibits almond and walnut, most intensely on the nose with even some barnyard, blue cheese and a hint of red wine vinegar, but taste features more tart, mature red grape with a dry, peppery tanin and a tingly carbonation through the medium body.

Highest abv beer on the board when I was there, drank much lighter. Drank like a carbonated red, mild on the sour scale

Definitely one of the more difficult JK fruits Ive rated.
This beer is as close to a red wine that I believe a beer comes.
Absolutely no head or head-retention. Visually looks like a red wine. I find this appealing, but others may be let down.
Smell is present; though subtle.
Tastes great, but Ill admit - I downgraded the Taste score because I think those that approach this beer still expecting a true sour/farmhouse ale will be disappointed.
Incredible smooth. Nice mouthfeel but low carbonation.
If there ever was a beer that would get me into wine, this would be it.
CHEERS!

Received in a trade and shared with JLindros.
A - Poured into a Kate the Great tulip a nice clear almost rose hue with a thin white head that fades to leave light wisps.
S - Aromas of light grape musk and vinous notes. Light malts, slightly funky. Generic red berries.
T - Taste is similar to the nose with nice berries and grape notes. Light tartness little musk.
M - Mouthfeel is lightly carbonated, but flemmy.
O - Overall this was a rather underwhelming beer. Was expecting way more from Jester King. Not really worth the hype.
