Back just in time for Fall is Wytchmaker Rye IPA!

First released at Jester King in October of 2010, Wytchmaker is brewed with Texas-grown San Jacinto Two Row and Wildfire Pale Malt from TexMalt, malted Rye, and oats. It's kettle hopped with Citra and El Dorado and dry hopped with Simcoe, Amarillo, Citra, and Mosaic Cryo. We fermented it in stainless steel with Imperial A38 Juice yeast.

It's super fresh, hoppy, and delicious, so we hope you enjoy it this Fall season!

This was my first try of a Jester King beer. I'd seen their Black Metal before but decided not to get it...mostly because of the price. But finally I gave in and got the Wytchmaker.

The head grows thick, bubbly-foamy, and off-white head over a copper-colored brew. It is a bit murky but just a tad. The head has pretty good retention as well. Looks lovely.

I love the smell of this. The rye is very strong that adds a woodsy spiciness to it. Earthy hops keep it floral and there's a bit of tropical fruit in there as well. I could smell this all day.

The taste is very much like the smell. The rye dominates but it's a great flavor. Spicy, woodsy, and adding a great depth of flavor. Hops add bitterness while the tropical fruit flavors bring some acidity and sweetness. It's sweet but not too sweet. I wouldn't say the taste is very complex but the depth the rye adds make up for it. Yum.

Overall this has a very smooth feel to it but the carbonation and, acidity, and spiciness makes it have a drier finish. Very clean, medium-bodied, and very drinkable.

My first Jester King beer and one that did not disappoint at all. One of the better rye beers I've tried.

Draft at CopenRoss. Light amber pour, thin layer of off-whte head. Malty aroma, rye bread. Taste is very mellow rye notes, and not overly hopped, so it' very smooth. Really nice, earthy, nutty flavors.

Pours deep orange, like a hazy style. Thick, thick white frothy head. Left over head sticks to glass leaving gracious amounts of lacing. Nose is very much pine, zest, almost like it is wet hopped. Taste was orange, and grapefruit with pine. Feel was a bit off, I wanted to get some great bitterness, but it did not provide that. I do get a white pepper, dry finish. Very easy drinking beer.

Canned 6/1/23. “Time, place, people” stamped on the bottom of the can

This is my first time having a non-Saison/Wild Ale from Jester King. This is a relatively straightforward beer for them, but naturally they had to give it the twist of rye to keep things a bit more interesting. Let’s crack it open and see what it’s all about

Pours a cloudy orange gold with 3 fingers of soapy off white head that slowly fades to a cap and leaves decent lacing

The nose has an old school sharp bitterness to it that I’m really digging. I’m picking up on aromas of pithy grapefruit, crackery malt, black pepper, earthy hops, lemon zest, rye spice, light orange zest, and honey

It doesn’t hit quite the same in taste, though it is still very enjoyable. On the front end of the sip I’m tasting red grapefruit, bready malt, peppery hops, honey, rye spice, caramel malt, and light pine. The swallow brings notes of red grapefruit, rye spice, bready malt, black pepper, earthy hops, orange zest, and a touch of banana

A medium body pairs with gentle carbonation, resulting in a slick yet sharp beer. Finishes mostly dry with a firm bitterness

A solid beer all around. I think they’re better off with crazy ass Wild Ales but it’s nice to see they can pull this off too

Hope this isn't too old to be tasted, but it's been sitting in the cellar for about a year. Pour is a semi hazy, light golden hue. Ridiculous amount of head made it hard to pour, pretty much overly carbonated. Smell is that typical JK, Belgian like yeastiness with hints of must, spicy rye, hops, green tea and plenty of grassiness. Plenty of spicy citrus in the taste. Subtle fruits. Plenty of dry grass in the back end, fair amount of hop profile. As it warms, interesting banana and bubblegum flavor arises. Very dry mouthfeel, super dry. Overall, not sure if being 2 years out of date has something to do with this, but overall I'm not impressed.

fine, fine ale. when i picked it up, i didn't realize it was a RYE farmhouse ale, so was curious after i got it home. it did not disappoint, at all.
look: very nice, hazy amber color with plentiful head, leaving abundant lacing. looks as good as it tastes.
smell: pleasantly earthy. very much a farmhouse ale aroma, but you can smell the rye to a degree
taste: pleasantly different. without the rye, it would be likely be the quintessential farmhouse ale....the rye gives it a nice edge or bite.
feel...still not exactly sure what this means, but feels smooth with the right amount of carbonation.
overall: i will get this again if i can find it...supposedly it i retired.

poured from a big bottle, bottled 9.29.15. purchased at total wine and beer 5/7/16.
