Near the end of an evening of terrific and very intense beers from Jester King, it's nice to move to something simpler. This is a very nice, straight-forward saison. Not wholly dissimilar to Dupont, which is high praise. Very drinkable.

Newest batch released summer 2015. So maybe it was the bartender overhyping this when i ordered it on draft at the brewery, or maybe it was the 100 degree weather, but i thought this was just ok. Mild soapy texture dominated the feel, overall a nice light saison but nothing to write home about.

I've had like 4 bottles of this, pretty sure I reviewed it, probably got lost.

Light fizzy foamy head, crystal clear orange color.

Nose funky sour malt, sour funk and tart, nice tart funk, sour mash, little musty mineral musty funk.

Taste nice tart funk, sour funk malt, tart fruit, little juicy malt with tart cherry funk, candy like, etc. Finish dry flemmy acidic funk, tart funk lingering.

Mouth med bod, decent carb, little acidity.

Pours a haze of golden sunshine with quickly dissipating head. Smells of pineapple and fruit cocktail, with hints of juniper, red currant, and resin. Tastes less fruity, with more evidence of the dry-hopping. The oak is present but unobtrusive, propping up the biscuity notes that complement the straw and sage flavors.

From the most recent bottling, poured into a HF Wine stem. Thick foamy head, golden body, lots of carbonation and spotty lacing as the beer is drank. The nose is overwhelmingly funky. Almost rancid vegetable/moldy smelling but at the same time really alluring (maybe it's because I'm a funk freak, who knows). A bit of hay and saison yeast on the nose as well. Taste is nowhere near the funkiness of the nose. Saison yeast, straw, a touch of funk, a little herbal, like basil, sage, or rosemary. Some oak, but not much. Just a hint of lemon and pepper on the finish. Not at all acidic as I was expecting. Feel is medium bodied, very dry, lots of carbonation. Refreshing. Overall, I like this but it feels like it has more potential. "Oak-aged Blended Saison" (what this bottle boasts) to me means funky and acidic. This definitely brings the funk but really could use some acid to pair it with. Right now it's more or less an american take on Saison Dupont. Excpetionally funky brett saison. That said... I'd still drink this again for sure.
