Style: American Pale Wheat Ale

Alcohol by volume (ABV): 3.90%

Availability: Summer

Notes / Commercial Description:
A flavorful, hoppy wheat beer, Drink’in the Sunbelt is the result of the first of two collaborations between Jester King and Mikkeller, the renowned Danish “gypsy brewer”. It takes its inspiration from another light, hoppy, sessionable wheat beer that Mikkeller had previously made, called “Drink’in the Sun”.

Review from notes. I was very skeptical of this one, as I have enjoyed very few Mikkeller beers (the collaborator on this one) and I certainly was not too keen on spending 6 bucks for a 4.2% wheat beer. 750mL bottle pours a hazed orange color with a bubbly, off-white head. Not much retention, nice lace.

Nose is juicy tropical hops, like skittles candy. Lightly malted, little bit of fruit. Smells pretty nice. Gumballhead came to mind when sniffing this one.

Taste is heavy on the hop flavor with a crisp wheat backing. Body is light and sweetness is low. Definitely fits the 'Hoppy American Wheat' category well. The freshness is very nice and the snappy liveliness of the beer is wonderful. I love the combo of hops used here, it works for me and the beer is very refreshing. If this came in six-packs, I would buy the shit out of it.

from notes - seven fidy split with my man D at MLG. bartender poured it for us in a very eager way almost like there was nothing on the planet that was going to keep him from pouring it for us. anyway poured a heavy orange color, hazy with a nice head sitting on top. the nose is of healthy wheat, some yeast presence, light spices, hoppy banana one two in the back. the taste is just immediately refreshing and quenching of light hops and wheat and some citrus flavors, not bad and well balanced. medium body with a very prickly carbonation and refreshes well. overall this could easily be enjoyed in the texas summers and i will be on the outlook for it come june/july. solid beer from an up and coming brewery.

We opened this up during a tasting this past weekend. Poured into a Chimay goblet.

Appearance: Pours a slightly cloudy gol den light amber color with two fingers of fluffy white head that leaves a layer on top of the pour.

Smell: Pine hops with some crisp, light malt. There are some citrus notes in the smell as well.

Taste: Light and crisp wheat malt. The overall flavor is a bit herbal. There are some pine hop notes that go well with the other tastes.

Mouthfeel: The body is on the thin side with lots of fluffy carbonation and a finish that is a bit dry.

Overall: This is a really nice summer beer. The mild hop bitterness has a really good taste to it without being too bitter and taking over.

A: The beer pours a very nice orangish gold with a very thick head. The head slowly fades and leaves a thick web like lace on the glass.

S: There is a lot of hops and malt in the smell of this beer.

T: There is mostly wheat in this beer. This bottle is close to a year old, so I assume a lot of the hops have faded. It's still very tasty.

M: This is a pretty smooth beer. It leaves a nice oliy feeling in my mouth.

O: This is a pretty nice Wheat Ale and this has a lot of great qualities.

Bottle poured into a wine glass

Pours a dark straw color with an overly massive white head that leaves plenty of lacing.

Smells of light, citric hops, bready wheat, and spice.

Taste follows the nose, with slightly more spices. Not very hoppy.

Mouthfeel is medium with high carbonation.

I really enjoyed this beer, considering its a style that I normally don't care for as much. It is a bit over carbonated, but aside from that, it fits the style perfectly.

Big 3 finger white head, with a gold/orange body, and bubbles just streaming incessantly at breakneck speeds from the bottom of the glass. This thing looks carbonated like crazy. Looks good in a wheat glass.

Get a big fruity/citrusy note off the bat like lemons and grapefruit. The wheat is there of course.

The citrus fruits are present in the taste along with some grassiness. Not much hop bitterness even though the hops are the most prevalent flavor. Little bit of spice flavor also.

Not as carbonated as I was expecting. The carbonation seems to settle rather quickly after going crazy when you first pour it. Light – med body.
