look: 3 | smell: 3.5 | taste: 3.5 | feel: 3.25 | overall: 3.25

Appearance: Dark black. Some dark browns and reds when held to direct light. Head is khaki and drops to a minimal cap with a small collar. No lacing and minimal carbonation on the pour.

Taste: Follows the nose closely with a bigger push on the lactic tartness. Typical funk with all of the associated barnyard. Hay, grass, damp earthy basement. Sweaty rocks. Deeply fruity with a ton of tart cherry skin and flesh, Hints of blackberry and plum in the back. Dark fruit in abundance. Tons of leather as well. Woody bitterness from the malts.

Smell: Deeply roasted malts add some burnt and slightly charred elements. Carries the typical Jester King funk. Damp basement and old sweaty sock. Loaded with dark fruit, mostly cherry. Some plum. Blackberry with a touch of blueberry. Musty. Barnyard - hay, grass, and wet. Some coffee bean. Woody bitterness with an almost alkali finish to the whole thing. Slightly lactic with some strong acetic notes - almost balsamic. Leather, lots of leather - old an worn. Fruity and funky and roasty.

Mouthfeel: Medium body and minimal carbonation thanks to the barrel. Clean and smooth sip.

Overall: Slap bass - move on.

Drinkable but not truly memorable. The flavors never quite meld and the sour nature becomes too acetic as it warms. Maybe a bit more time or a more nuanced blend.

Cheers to Goblinmunkey7

A: Pours dark, deep brown to black - pours with a medium to large, light brown head, fades to a wispy cap, leaves a few streaks of lacing

S: Big, bold, and burnt with some big sour - dark chocolate with some burnt cocoa - dark chocolate malts, burnt grains - some wet, damp sour - very lactic, with some wet farmhouse funk and some vinegar - some sour dark fruits as well

T: Very burnt and very sour - somewhat of a harsh combination, hard to drink at first although it gains some charm as it warms up - lactic, musty, damp, dirty cellar sourness - very wet, vinegar-like to an extent - dark fruits, such as figs, plums - a large amount of funk, some barnyard flavors - stout base is very burnt, with roasty chocolate, char - decidedly harsh, which I guess may be the intention - update: the flavor gets old quickly, splitting a bottle of this is actually a challenge

M: Medium body, nicely carbonated, not entirely smooth, finishes with some residual lactic weirdness

O: Not as memorable as Disco Metal

Sour stouts are very hit or miss. This has a huge amount of what generally makes Jester King beers great, like their intense funk and yeasty flavors. Overall, they somewhat clash with the burnt malt profile. If you're a fan of the style, this may be worth seeking out.
