On tap at The Beer Company in San Diego, CA.
Pours a murky brown with a foamy khaki head that settles to wisps of film on top of the beer. Small streaks of lace form around the glass on the drink down. Smell is of malt, brown sugar, toffee, and citrus zest. Taste is much the same with a brown sugar flavor on the finish. There is a mild amount of hop bitterness on the palate with each sip. This beer has a lower level of carbonation with a slightly crisp and sticky mouthfeel. Overall, this is a good beer that is tasty but strong.

On tap at The Beer Company. This is an American Barleywine aged for a year in an Elijah Craig barrel with some aged unbarreled Barleywine and fresh hoppy Red Ale blended back in at the end.
A: Reddish brown with a fleeting off-white head. Nice color.
S: Whiskey and caramel with oak and vanilla. Firm hop profile from the Red Ale which lends orange and grapefruit. Nice hop bouquet.
T: Caramel and bread with pine, earth, tangerine. Smooth moderate bitterness. Quite hoppy but nice flavor on the whole. I detect a little oak and vanilla. Whiskey is well integrated and alcohol is well hidden throughout.
M: Upper medium body with medium carbonation.
Overall: A good hoppy barrel aged American barleywine. Not a lot of barrel but a nice beer regardless. I think the brewer succeeded in what he was trying to accomplish with this beer. Javib458 orders this by the pint to start off a night so he would probably recommended it, and so would I.
