Notes: Hubert? I’ve heard of him. A friend of a friend knows him. Apparently he’s awesome, but we’ve never met. Well. It’s about time you did. Most you connoisseurs would just call him an IPA, but we call him an MPA. The Melvin Pale Ale. A welcomed hand shake to your taste buds. Light, crisp, fresh and a little bitty bitter. Lets just say he won’t be that jerk that leaves you at the bar at 2am. He’s low in alcohol. What a nice guy… that Hubert.

Had a 12oz pour from the brewery in Alpine, WY. Delicious hoppy Pale! Great daytime drinking beer. Surprisingly more hop forward bite than some of their canned IPAs I’ve had in the past. Definitely a very worthy Pale Ale.

Clear golden body with great white foam and lacing. Taste is extremely bitter pine, with notes of grapefruit and malt. There is an overwhelming floral quality that I find distasteful. Otherwise crisp and clean. Overall a well made beer.

12oz can with a freshness date that's very hard to make out. Opened 4/9/20.
1 1/2" off white head, sudsy and dense with good retention. Golden pale ale with limited clarity. Good looking fresh and sticky lace pattern here.
Citrus and tropical nose. Mango, pineapple, peach, orange, grapefruit. Pine.
Fruit salad representing a wide array of hoppy flavors with a hit of piney bitterness on the finish. There's a hefty enough, almost creamy flavor to the malt backbone.
Medium to a more than medium body - carbonation is appropriate. Has a can conditioned type of mouthfeel a la SNPA. Long finish with a good punch of bitterness above that of a typical pale ale. Dry finish as well.
Very good.

12oz can. Poured out a clear, golden orange color with a small, off-white head of foam. It smelled of toasted caramel, pine and citrus notes. Sweet caramel taste with pine, orange and toffee.

Appearance: Pours a clear golden color with a one finger frothy cap; good retention, splashy lacing

Smell: Biscuity, with hints of caramel, melon and pine

Taste: Biscuit and caramel forward, with melon and piney tones developing; moderate bitterness persists through the finish

Mouthfeel: Medium body with moderate carbonation

Overall: A nice middle of the road APA

12oz can poured into Duvel tulip. Picked up at grocery store as part of a $10 sixer mixer. CANNED ON 10/11/19 printed on bottom rim of can. So this is less than a month old, should be quite fresh.

Appearance - Pours white, 3 finger soapy head with good retention and weak to decent stick. Very hazy medium-light gold body with lots of floaters that stay equally spaced somehow like they're in a goopy matrix. 4.75

Smell - Distinctly dry grass and orange rind. 5

Taste - Grassy bitter hop but perfectly balanced. Orange rind also shows here. 5

Mouthfeel - Medium to full bodied. Smooth and drinkable. Perfectly balanced astringency that remains hidden but functional in keeping it feeling clean and refreshing. 5

Overall - Great balance. Love it. 5

Poured from a 12 oz. can, Has a golden/orange color with a 1/2 inch head. Smell is of citrus, peaches. Taste is citrus, some mango and malts, kind of bitter for the style. Feels medium/full bodied in the mouth and overall is a solid beer worth trying.

12oz can picked up at Hop & Hound in Bothell, Washington.
Canned on date is 3/13/19 so a little older. Served in a low ball glass because no clean pint glasses.

Look- Nice, lightly hazy medium gold color. Big fluffy, solid white head that gradually recedes and leaves a good amount of lacing. Carbonation activity is decent as it sits it the glass.

Smell- Citrus and a bit of tropical fruit, dank melon, with hints of lawn clippings.

Taste- Starts out dank melon and tropical, then the citrus from the hops and the malt come in to balance.

Feel- Medium bodied and clean, session or sip at your discretion.

O- Except for 2x4, probably my new favorite Melvin offering, drinks much more like an IPA instead of APA.

Good stuff and very reasonably priced.

Pours a slightly cloudy deep golden coloration with a medium, dense head. Smells of biscuity malt and slightly floral, citrus hops, with just a hint of pine. Taste is good balance of biscuity, slightly grainy malt and floral, slightly resinous citrus hops, with notes of grapefruit, tangerine, pine and a light dankness. Finishes with a light/medium bitterness and some floral, citrus hops lingering in the aftertaste. Smooth mouthfeel with a medium body and carbonation.

This seems a little past its prime at 5 months old, but still has some decent dank, resinous and citrussy notes of grapefruit, tangerine and pine going on, although being a touch too floral for my personal taste. I rated this a little higher than I normally would to make up for the age.

This one is dated 4-12, so 26 days old (in my fridge a few). So why did I buy it? Wyoming. Definitely a bucketlist place - why the hell have I never been there? (Answer: more interested in skiing, etc.). Anyhow, those cowboys have a good one here.

It pours a pretty yellow, with very nice head. The aroma is just there, not too pronounced, for the style. It is very indicative of the taste (baked in, not finishing hops). The rest of the taste is balanced - nice and malty, though only 6% alcohol.

Recommended. It would be great to get one in person some day.

Can. Beautiful CLEAR gold with lasting head and lace. Tropical fruit aroma with light toffee and hay. Medium apricot sweetness with very light biscuit for style some toffee. Light fruity bitterness in medium finish. LIght body slick but not cloying medium carbo. Delicious but almost more of a golden ale than a pale ale.

Feel - medium body light carbonation

Picked up a single from TW Arrowhead 11-13-18 for $2.79. Canned on 10-1-18; consumed 3-7-19. Cold stored since purchase.

Beer poured golden orange with a decent white head with the initial pour.

Nose is citrusy with a hint of dankness.

Taste is grapefruit and some mango with a touch of pine bitterness in the finish.

Mouthfeel is light bodied and very refreshing.

Overall a very nice IPA Light! Would have again...

Nice hazy golden color with a frothy off-white head, the aromas are big on the citrus end of the spectrum, and there’s a nice malt aroma as well.

The taste is a really exceptional balance between the citrus flavors and the biscuity malt notes. A really well-executed APA, IMHO.

I got a can this off the single shelf from a Kroger just down the road from south metro ice in Dayton,OH . The beer poured a slightly hazy orangish with white head that is leaving some lace. The scent had hints of citrus peel. The taste was nicely balanced and easy to drink with citrus peel presence. The mouthfeel was medium in body with good carbonation. Overall its a solid beer.

Grassy nose, light body, fragrant, dull hops. This was that 2012 APA buzz, right before Session IPAs became a thing. Just doesn’t bring enough for 6%.

A: The beer is slightly hazy yellow in color and has a light to moderate amount of visible carbonation. It poured with a finger high bright white head that left a thin layer of bubbles covering the surface, a narrow collar, and lots of lacing down the sides of the glass.
S: Moderate aromas of citrusy hops are present in the nose—oranges seem to stand out in particular.
T: The taste follows the smell and has flavors of orange citrus hops with a light amount of bitterness.
M: It feels light- to medium-bodied and crisp on the palate with a moderate amount of carbonation.
O: This APA has a nice dose of citrusy aromas and flavors and is very crushable.

12oz, canned on 08/28/18. Slightly hazed golden body with a sticky off-white colored head. Intriguing hoppy aroma; juicy and tropical; citric and fruity. Nice flavor notes with a big citrus burst of grapefruit & orange; mango, pine, a touch of pineapple, and a light biscuity/caramely malt presence. Medium body, ample carbonation, great balance with a crisp and dry finish. This was really good! Definitely recommendable and I'll be buying more of this in the future.

Citrus aroma - grapefruit, sharp. Aggressive pout into a nonic Imperial pint glass. Hazy orange, a bit dull rather than bright. Tall white head, thick and creamy, that recedes moderately to a somewhat tall bubbly ring, leaving rings of connected lacing. Solid body in the feel. The taste is citrus, but mild, not sharp as the aroma. Easy drinking. Nice solid bread malts. Citrus remains throughout middle, finish, aftertaste. Just a touch of bitterness in the finish. Excellent APA.

Poured 12oz can into glass. Stamped canning date is '08/28/18'.
Medium gold colored body. Pours one finger of off white head, which settles to thin cap and ring. Leaves a good amount of spots of lacing.
Lots of fruity aroma upon opening. Includes sweet orange and peach. Also some piney smells.
Taste is juicy, sweet, and piney bitter. Orange and peach, and a little biscuit.
Medium to full mouth feel. Good carbonation.
Very chewy ale, with a very good balance of hops, and the backing of malts. Has some bitterness but is very refreshing. I could drink more than one of these in a session.

Pours a somewhat cloudy light golden orange color. Thin white head dissipates steadily leaving a ring of foam along the outside of the beer and a couple spots of foam on top.

Aroma is quite fragrant and has notes of orange, peach, mango and a touch of pine and some cracker malts.

Taste has some light orange and mango notes with a more pronounced piney bitterness. Somewhat grassy, but mostly piney notes come through on the finish. Lingering bitter flavor sticks around on the palate. Strong cracker malt backbone. For as fragrant as the beer is, the flavors just don't pop like I anticipated.

Feel is light, lightly carbonated. Semi-dry finish. Easy drinking.

Overall this was an enjoyable IPA.Nicely crafted and certainly above average.

Canned on 8/10/18. 12oz can poured into a tulip. Pours golden with great clarity and transparency; big fluffy white head that slowly falls leaving great thick retention and sticky lacing. The aromas are citrus forward along with some tropical notes. Some bread and crackers. Some malts. The flavors basically follow the nose. Orange and grapefruit are there. Some pineapple. Some fresh grass in the mix. Subtle hints of caramel. Malts do their thing. Moderate bitterness. Solid hop flavors. Finishes on the juicier side. Alcohol goes unnoticed. Mouthfeel is on the lighter side of medium-bodied with moderate carbonation. It's smooth and easy to drink.

This is a pretty solid brew. I guess it drinks more like an IPA than a traditional pale ale, but it works. Enjoyable stuff.

Slightly hazy gold-amber with a bubbly cream-colored froth, this beer's lighter ABV is a welcome change for a lineup of higher octane IPAs coming out of this Wyoming brewery we're enjoying for the first time here in NE Ohio. The lighter ABV leaves room to express a lighter dankness with lemony weeds, onion, Sweet Tarts, and even a bit of crackery malt. The medium body has a filling froth as it finishes semi-dry.
