Notes / Commercial Description:
Hubert? I’ve heard of him. A friend of a friend knows him. Apparently he’s awesome, but we’ve never met. Well. It’s about time you did. Most you connoisseurs would just call him an IPA, but we call him an MPA. The Melvin Pale Ale. A welcomed hand shake to your taste buds. Light, crisp, fresh and a little bitty bitter. Lets just say he won’t be that jerk that leaves you at the bar at 2am. He’s low in alcohol. What a nice guy… that Hubert.

Had it on tap in D.C.

L: Dark golden in the glass, lots of bubbles with a white head

S: Strong on citrus, passion fruit, grapefruit, and pine. I really loved the smell on this beer. It smelled fruity and tropical, earthy, and complex.

T: Tasted citrusy, but less than the smell. A good fruity citrus front with a piney middle and dry bitter finish. The malt was present throughout, but not overpowering. Tasted very refreshing and light, very drinkable for an IPA.

O: Loved it. It was complex, clean, light, and refreshing. Each sip would bring some new flavors and elements, and I didn't want the glass to end!

12 oz. Can

Pours a very nice slightlly hazy golden orange color, very nice carbonation, with a very nice two-finger thick/creamy white head, which leaves a few thick/creamy islands and sticky lacing behind. The nose is pretty hoppy, and citrusy, with some pine notes. The taste is pretty freakn' awesome for a APA, but it should be an IPA, but........, very nice hoppyness, very nice citrus, with some pine notes, still APA or IPA, I really never get the pineyness in most of those styles, not until hitting the 9% ABV DIPAs, for the most part. Medium body, ABV hidden very well, their is also some chewyness to this brew, not common in a APA or IPA. Overall, fuckn' surprised my ass. Very Nice! Highly Recommended! I remember Bitterbill telling me of this place many moons ago, and I always remembered it as Thai Me Up, did not know about the Melvin part. Almost wanted to visit this place when still in Utah. Glad I bought a sixer.

This might be the closest that Coloradans are going to get to having Zombie Dust at their local liquor stores (now that Melvin distributes here). It isn't quite there IMO but pretty dang close to quality and flavor profile. Orange, Grapefruit and a bit of pine bursting forth from a light crackery sweetness. Finishes bitter and dry, actually more bitter than many IPA's. This blows away nearly every APA that I have had and I would actually take this over most IPA's. I will consistently be bringing this back to the mountains from my occasional trips to Denver.

12 oz can. Pours slightly hazy golden yellow with a big creamy bubbly white head that retains well and leaves some lacing.

The aroma is sweet cracker malts with piney resiny hops and some fruit.

The flavor is sweet honey malts with a little fruit and a huge piney resiny bitter finish. The mouthfeel is medium to full bodied with smooth carbonation.

Overall, a nice huge hop forward pale ale.

On tap at DeCicco's in Millwood, NY

Pours pretty darn clear, classy looking fine strands of lacing all over the glass.

Super tropical fruity and a bit sweet sniff

More of the same on the old palate, lime, ripe pineapple, melon...sweet, yes...but not cloying...dangerously drinkable and quite delicious...worth a try...more new beer/breweries distributing into NY state, life is good

Canned 12/07/17. Pours hazy, gold in color with 1/3 inch head. Taste is big melon, tangerine, and grassy bitterness and a touch of unripe strawberry. Bitter, medium-high bodied with moderate carbonation. Really complex for the style. All sorts of wonderful flavors going on here. Fruity, but not juicy like a NEIPA. Different from most pales I have had. I will get this again. Well worth seeking out. Favorite from the brewery so far.

Poured a very clear copper color with a slight amount of head that laces the glass. The nose is hoppy with pine and floral hints finishing with some malty bread. The flavor starts off with a citrus sweetness but a piney bitterness comes in quickly afterwards leaving a spicy finish. The feel is medium with good carbonation. This borders on IPA with hops aroma and taste. A very excellent Pale Ale with a good amount of bitterness in it. Miss this style with everything being juicy and no bitterness.

It's been fun trying different Melvin beers this week and finding their differing hop profiles, flavors and aromas.

This beer looked more hazy than the others I've had with the frothy head that and bountiful lace they all show.

The aroma is noticeably more piney and less fruity though there's still plenty of tropical notes here.

Flavor-wise it's clear the malt is more forward and offers some biscuity qualities and bread. Impressively though, there's still a savage bitterness, zest and grapefruit tang. It hints at juiciness and fruity tropical flavors too. The finish is all dry and bitter.

This could possibly be more bitter than the IPA and DIPA and that's curious to me. It does make it a smidgen less easy to slam with abandon but this still has a light quality that allows for a Hubert session.

12oz can - ok, so what does the 'M' in MPA stand for? Melvin? Madness? More? Inquiring minds would like to know.

This beer pours a slightly hazy, bright medium golden yellow colour, with two fingers of puffy, loosely foamy, and somewhat fizzy off-white head, which leaves a bit of streaky and sudsy lace around the glass as it quickly blows off.

It smells of dank pine resin, muddled tropical fruit (maybe some mango and generic melon standing out), bready caramel malt, and further leafy, herbal, and estery floral green hop bitters. The taste is gritty and grainy caramel malt, some blood orange, red grapefruit, and aged lemon citrus, further indistinct melon fruity notes, a mild stoney flintiness, and more piney, herbal, and spicy floral hoppiness.

The carbonation is adequate in its supportive and sometimes palate-pinging frothiness, the body a solid middleweight, and mostly smooth, with a bit of hop acridity messing with a burgeoning creaminess. It finishes off-dry, all fruity this, and verdant hop bitter that, over top of a decent lingering malt.

Overall, this is another bang-up job for this Wyoming brewing concern - they've created a very flavourful and hoppy pale ale, but one that keeps well away from (west coast, at least) IPA territory. Tasty, easy to put back, and I am getting tired of writing about it - I mean that as the highest compliment, in that I just want to get back to drinking it!

Melvin Brewery calls this a MPA. Their version of an IPA, Melvin PA. Delightful. Pours a light lemony color, lacing hangs around nicely. I can taste the bitterish taste but it’s nicely done here. I have friends that get Melvin’s brews from Wyoming to me here in Florida. Yay for friends because I have had three of their brews so far and they are really well done beers.
