Notes / Commercial Description:
Hubert? I’ve heard of him. A friend of a friend knows him. Apparently he’s awesome, but we’ve never met. Well. It’s about time you did. Most you connoisseurs would just call him an IPA, but we call him an MPA. The Melvin Pale Ale. A welcomed hand shake to your taste buds. Light, crisp, fresh and a little bitty bitter. Lets just say he won’t be that jerk that leaves you at the bar at 2am. He’s low in alcohol. What a nice guy… that Hubert.

Overall a fantastic beer. If I had to give it a critique, I would say that it lacks a little bit of carbonation.

Canned on 8/10/18. 12oz can poured into a tulip. Pours golden with great clarity and transparency; big fluffy white head that slowly falls leaving great thick retention and sticky lacing. The aromas are citrus forward along with some tropical notes. Some bread and crackers. Some malts. The flavors basically follow the nose. Orange and grapefruit are there. Some pineapple. Some fresh grass in the mix. Subtle hints of caramel. Malts do their thing. Moderate bitterness. Solid hop flavors. Finishes on the juicier side. Alcohol goes unnoticed. Mouthfeel is on the lighter side of medium-bodied with moderate carbonation. It's smooth and easy to drink.

This is a pretty solid brew. I guess it drinks more like an IPA than a traditional pale ale, but it works. Enjoyable stuff.

Slightly hazy gold-amber with a bubbly cream-colored froth, this beer's lighter ABV is a welcome change for a lineup of higher octane IPAs coming out of this Wyoming brewery we're enjoying for the first time here in NE Ohio. The lighter ABV leaves room to express a lighter dankness with lemony weeds, onion, Sweet Tarts, and even a bit of crackery malt. The medium body has a filling froth as it finishes semi-dry.

Pouring from a 12 oz. can into a pint glass. This beer is another one from Melvin with great clarity. It is medium golden in color, almost resembles apple juice. It formed a thin white crown. The smell is juicy citrus notes. About all of their beers I've been having recently have the same smell. Kind of slight and muted citrus juiciness. The taste comes in with a really smooth hop presence that doesn't overpower the malts and lets them be shown the whole way through. Slightly bitter, slightly crisp from the almost corn like malts. Overall, this is a nice pale that I would drink again.

Poured into a snifter. A clear golden-amber color with a thick white head. The aroma was a bit subdued but had a pleasant mix of citrus pith and pine. Orange rind dominated. Crisp and sharp on the palate, with bitterness up front that framed a juicy middle. Mainly citrus with earthy notes. A dry bready malt presence. Clean, dry finish.

A: Pours a 2 finger head, hazy golden color, good carbonation.

S: Smells of piney hops, citrus, bright summer fruit, maybe mangoes. Very refreshing.

T: Starts off sweet, hoppy, then gets more hoppy, and ends up being one big bitter hop bomb. Couldn't really make out anything else.

O: It started off with so much potential. The smell was so alluring, but alas this is too hoppy and bitter for my taste.

Hazy golden with a little carbonation and a finger of off white, creamy head.

Smells of ripe pineapples and and a deep, dank quality. Candied fruit.

The taste is of delicious, tropical fruits, with a nice, dank background. A hint of pine.

Medium, light, foamy body which is slightly sweet, but overall dry for its fruitiness.

Got at CentFest, drinking in Chiang Mai, June 22nd, 2018. Excellent APA.

This is a great American Pale Ale/India Pale Ale. It’s definitely a hoppy beer with IPA leanings, but it’s light bodied, crisp and easy to drink despite bringing plenty of hop bittnerness and stone fruit flavors to the table. Hubert is well balanced and has a solid malty base that tones down the aforementioned hops.

This is worth a try! One of the better beers by Melvin in my experience.

Mild citrus aroma, agree with prior review aftertaste has slight onion/grassy bitterness, which I don't mind. Good drikibikity, overall a solid pale ale.

-spiegelau ipa glass. 11.10.17. consumed 05.29.18.

A: Bright orange coloring is dense in nature, with little back lighting coming through. A strong sense of effervesce is seen. Soapy textured head is pearl white in color, and leaves a good amount of sloppy lace on the vessel.

S: Fresh lemony aroma is wet and fresh with some soft, lightly dry lemon grass hopping. Some dry grains provides moderate support and strength. There is a faint hint of onion grass.

T: Spicy orange and citrus hops, lightly dry for flavor. Again there is a small presence of onion-grassy hops, small bittering with some herbal citric and basil bite on the finish. Dry flowery sense and dry hop bittering occur on the finish along with some dry grainy dust.

M; Lighter side of medium weight for the mouthful. Soft and smooth feel, bittering.

O: Overall a solid level of hopping, reminded me a bit of Dale's Gumba with the grassy onion hops. Good flavor, nothing that really stands out, but little to complain about. Hits the middle of the road mentality, good drinkability, nice presentation and a decent crispness rounds things out.
