Notes / Commercial Description:
Hubert? I’ve heard of him. A friend of a friend knows him. Apparently he’s awesome, but we’ve never met. Well. It’s about time you did. Most you connoisseurs would just call him an IPA, but we call him an MPA. The Melvin Pale Ale. A welcomed hand shake to your taste buds. Light, crisp, fresh and a little bitty bitter. Lets just say he won’t be that jerk that leaves you at the bar at 2am. He’s low in alcohol. What a nice guy… that Hubert.

This pours hazy to cloudy straw goldish with an inch of foam.

The smell has a lot of citrus. .no actually the nose is on the lighter side. Some more mild bitterness and some cracker like malt.

My palate says that Hubert leans towards the hoppy side but there's a fine balance going on. Citrus as in grapefruit melds well with the cracker I get from the malt.

Good mouthfeel that finishes dry and bitter.

i have to say with this recent round of melvin beers, they seem to have the basics right down to a science. its nothing radical or revolutionary, but its nice when a brewery thats new to the market comes in and everything is expertly done. i dont just mean the recipes, which are generally very good, but i mean the execution of them. all the melvin beers so far have been beautiful in the glass, holding tall white heads on the hoppy stuff, leaving beautiful rings as they drink, and with spirited carbonation and appropriate dryness. across the board these fundamentals, so often overlooked or missed by brewers, are on point with the melvin stuff. hubert might be the best example of that. a really tasty pale, perhaps not the most ambitious of their beers, but we need some drinkable stuff too. its more in the execution than in the recipe creation that this beer shines. its a flawless example of the style, pale enough on the malt front but not flavorless, with a delicate but not minimal body, and a capacity for drinkability and refreshment thats almost unrivaled by any pale we have here in the market. i think their big ipas are a bit more distinct, but as far as this one goes, its hard to imagine where it could be improved upon. great hop profile with more citrus brightness than piney density, although both are present. well hoppy too in scale, on the edge of being an ipa. i could drink ten of these this afternoon.

Draft at the brewpub and now from a bottle.... Clear dark golden with a short lived white head... Light bready pale maltiness with a nice shot of citrus and tropical fruity hops... Definitely still in the Melvin wheelhouse, but leans distinctively back toward the APA side of things... Very drinkable.

Served On-Tap

A – Pours a bright honied amber in color, light white head leaves behind great lacing.

S – Intensely sweet, fresh, and hoppy, bitter, juicy, remarkable.

T – Great juicy hop notes, balanced with a little pine bitterness.

M – Medium bodied, nice carbonation level as well.

O – Very nice APA, drinks more like an IPA, it is intensely hoppy and brilliant.

Holy crap, so much candied pineapple and other tropical fruit in the nose. Amazing. Taste follows with a little zesty bitterness. Fucking awesome, drink this if you can.
