Style: American Double / Imperial IPA

Alcohol by volume (ABV): 9.50%

Availability: Rotating

Notes / Commercial Description:
The Drunken Master is legend. DM is a brand new double IPA, not as boozy as TUBA and with greater balance. Unbeatable combination of Citra, Amarillo and Columbus hops gives a perfect combination of bitter and citrus to pedestal a big malt character. Looks like sunshine in a glass and tastes like a goddamn dream. Current title holder of best Double IPA in America.

Hops: Citra, Amarillo and Columbus Malt: 2-Row, C-Pils, C-60, and C-15

12 oz can. Pours clear copper gold with a big fluffy off white head that retains well and leaves some lacing.

The aroma is sweet bready caramel malt with big resiny piney hops and some fruit.

The flavor is sweet bready caramel malt with big dank resiny hops with some pine and fruit. The mouthfeel is medium to full bodied with smooth carbonation.

Overall, a very nice and well balanced (for a 9% DIPA).

12 oz can..."canned 9/22/17"

Pours with a medium haze, supports a lasting and thick cap, leaving low sheeting and ample strands of lace all over the glass.

Some booze on the sniff, along with oranges, apricots and lime.

Big, bold, delicious creation. More orange, more apricot, dense honey/vanilla and smoky malt underbelly...9.5% clearly present, but nice job brewing this so that its just a hint boozy...Quality night capper

12oz can - another DIPA from these guys, and that is not even remotely a complaint.

This beer pours a mostly clear, medium copper amber colour, with three fingers of puffy, loosely foamy, and bubbly beige head, which leaves some stellar thickly webbed lace around the glass as it slowly subsides.

It smells of bready and doughy caramel malt, biscuity toffee, mixed domestic citrus rind, a further indistinct tropical fruitiness, mild chalky notes, and more leafy, herbal, and gently perfumed floral green hop bitters. The taste is grainy and bready caramel malt, cold toffee pudding, generic citrus vodka, red Texas grapefruit zest, and more sassy weedy, herbal, and soused-up floral verdant hoppiness.

The carbonation is fairly laid-back in its plebeian frothiness, the body a solid middleweight, and generally smooth, as the malt wields a mighty sword to ward off any hop or booze intransigence. It finishes well off-dry, the lingering caramel, citrus, and alcohol colluding as such.

Overall, this is indeed highly evocative of the first west coast DIPAs that first lured me into the game all those years ago - big, challenging citrus and forest floor detritus hops, with a sturdy-ass malt backbone. Great stuff, and not too warming, so I just think I'll kill the rest of this one by taking a further walk down memory lane.

The beer pours out a dark golden/light amber color, with 1 finger of off white head-------------- the aromas are of sweet malt, pineapple syrup, peaches and pine--------------- the flavors are of sweet caramelized peach, red berries and pine, the beer has a medium slick mouthfeel with a prominent bitterness on the finish-------------- overall this was a solid west coast double ipa, it was big and bold with that resinous pine and sweet malt

Hazy gold with three fingers of long lasting bone color head. Fair amount of lace.
Smell is dank floral and resin.
Taste is dank floral fruity with a big amount of bready malt. Some alcohol detected.
Mouthfeel is medium plus with good carbonation. The finish is balanced and eventually lightly dry.
Overall it started out better than it finished. Worth a try though.

Poured into a Seattle Beer Week pint glass. Pours a medium coppery amber with a fine, half finger white head with great retention and lacing. Aroma of light caramel malt, dank and citrus hops, orange citrus, light tropical fruit and a bright floral note in the end. Flavor is caramel malt, a bit on the sweet side, piney and citrus hops, apricot and orange citrus; finishes with deep, resinous pine and citrus hops with a nice supporting slightly sweet caramel malt base. Medium bodied with nice creaminess and mouth feel. A deceptively well balanced and smooth big IPA. The start has such a mellow integration of the bright hop flavors and the malt that the resinous finish almost comes as a (pleasant) surprise. A touch of unbalanced dankness in the very end of the taste is the only part that distracts from a super smooth, balanced imperial IPA experience. These guy really know what they are doing. The Master was probably distracted by the misleading smoothness which resulted in his new name. I had to pace myself on this big IPA; it was very sippable.

A twelve ounce can purchased at Rambo's Longhorn Liquors in Estes Park CO. Pouring this 09/02/17 mystery in a tulip glass.

Look- Pours a dark orange producing two fingers of creamy white foam that takes forever to settle leaving heavy lacing in it's wake.

Smell- Sticky sweet malt, grapefruit, floral and some pine.

Taste- Heavy floral, grapefruit, mild onion and slick malt in the finish.

Feel- Slick and creamy smooth. Dangerously drinkable for a 9% abv. beer.

Overall- This one is more west coast/old school. It reminds me of The Oracle by Bells in some regards which is pretty good company. Super drinkable for the respectable abv. as well and is definitely worth your while.

A: The beer is relatively clear yellowish amber in color and has a light amount of visible carbonation. It poured with a two finger high light beige colored head that died down, leaving a short head covering the surface and lots of lacy rings of bubbles around the edge of the glass.
S: Light aromas of tangerines are present in the nose.
T: The taste starts out with some citrusy flavors of orange and tangerine hops but quickly transitions over to flavors of dank pine resin, the latter of which of has a moderate amount of bitterness.
M: It feels medium-bodied and a little crisp on the palate with a moderate amount of carbonation.
O: The taste of this IIPA has an interesting mix of citrusy and piney flavors. The alcohol is very well hidden from the taste.
