Notes: A triple IPA? Is that even possible? How does that work? The easy answer: more hops, more grain (way more). Lambda is not a 90s East coast malt bomb. Melvin makes beer from the future. This beer is made on the West coast of Wyoming and has hops for days. Citra, Lewis, Chinook, Amarillo, Gilbert, Columbus, Takashi, Mosaic, Simcoe, Lamar.

An exceptional triple IPA with complex hop combo that has a great bitterness but a wonderful sweet malt flavor at the finish. I truly like this beer and am extremely happy I could get this through Tavour to WI. I want to see more of these sweet, dank, resinous, IPA's. Bitter and sweet can coexist.

By far the most balanced and fruitiest triple I've ever tasted. Not too heavy, not too light, not too sweet, and not too bitter. This is extremely balanced, and there is no excess heat to distract the palate. A masterfully crafted beer.

A: Slightly hazy light gold, an inch of foam, good lacing.

S: Grapefruit with a significant dank factor, tropical fruits.

T: Grapefruit with a very good sweet malt. Balanced to near perfection and minimal alcohol intrusion. Finishes perhaps more sweet than bitter.

M: Full bodied to my palate.

O: Pretty amazing Triple IPA!

12 oz can. Pours slightly hazy straw gold with a medium creamy white head that retains well and laces the glass.

The aroma is bready malt with stinky onion hops and some alcohol.

The flavor is sweet bready caramel malt with big resiny, slightly onion, hops. There's some alcohol, but it's well hidden. the mouthfeel is medium to full bodied with smooth carbonation.

Overall, I liked it a lot better on draft. It was more sweet and fruity with no stinky onion hops.

Yellow gold color with the lightest of hazes. Nice head which leaves ample rings and streaks for lace.

Relatively mild and balanced aroma. Good pale malt presence with just a hint of alcohol. Strongest smell is still the bittering hop--nondescript.

Creamy start but higher carbonation cuts into it quickly. Also notable is strongly warming alcohol. Malt dominates the taste in the mouth and hop brings bitterness to the swallow. The finish is again well-balanced with more warming alcohol.

12 oz. Can
Canned On: 052517

Poured into a chalice a very nice clean/clear dark golden yellowish color, very nice carbonation, with a very nice thick/creamy two-finger white head, which also leaves a HUGE creamy island, and some very nice creamy sticky lacing behind. The nose is hoppy, very nice sweetness, very nice citrus notes, very nice pine note. The taste is very nice, hoppy, very nice sweetness, citrusy, piney. Full Body, ABV hidden very very well, very nice chewyness, still, definitely a sipper, with a very nice dry/bitter finish. Overall, this is a very tasty brew. Very nice for the ABV. Glad to see it in GJ!

Poured from a 12 oz can into a Duvel tulip

L: Slightly hazed bright golden pour. Thick foamy head... ridiculous retention and lacing.

S: Sweet and fruity... a bit of booze... citrus.

T/F: Rich and sweet up front.... alcohol and grains, EtOH not terribly hidden. Juicy and tropical fruit character... milder citrus. Pineapple and mango. Floral... very tame flavor. I'm sure the IBU's are there but the alcohol and sweet fruit character balance it away. Sticky on the tongue... syrupy. Grapefruit rind and sweet fruit at the finish. Boozy aftertaste.

O: Overdone a bit... and a little sweet for my palate. The flavors are nice, but the booze isn't well hidden enough and the aftertaste is a tad unpleasant. A good way to get the blood-alcohol level up fast. Worth trying... not one I'd drink regularly.

Acquired via trade from Wasatch so a big “Thank You” goes out to him. Poured from a 12oz can into a US tumbler pint glass.

A: The beer is a deep gold color with a medium off-white head that fades slowly and leaves a very thick lace on the glass.

S: The aroma contains fruity citrus, piney hops and caramelized malts.

T: The taste starts out sweet with flavors of citrus and caramel. Then a strong but not over-powering piney hops bitterness comes in. The malt character is hearty and provides a good balance especially for a beer with 13.00% ABV (which is well-hidden). The after-taste is slightly sweet and slightly hoppy.

M: Crisp and very smooth, medium body, medium carbonation, finish is slightly sticky.

O: Tasty, goes down dangerously easily, not too filling, strong well-disguised kick, very good representation of style, this is a very good strong 2IPA that takes me back to the trend of the high-octane 2IPA’s which has given way in recent years to the “Session IPA” trend.

A canned triple IPA from one of the more exciting breweries I've recently discovered? And at a $11/4-pack price point? I'm giddy!

A clear light orange with a dense, off-white head with excellent retention and lacing, this looks solid. The nose is very juicy and fruity, though not as hoppy as i was expecting/hoping. Pungent pine, oranges, lemons and candied grapefruit are present. The palate opens sweet with a blend of orange juice, honey, some cotton candy and a blend of hop flavors - orange juice, peach juice, white/green grape juice, a little pineapple juice; all carried on a clean but sweet palate. Moderately sweet on the finish with a moderate bitterness, there's lingering orange, honey and peach flavors present. Alcohol is quite well-hidden here. With a creamy mouthfeel and moderate carbonation, this beer is solid. Just don't expect another 3x IPA as good as Pfriem or Notorious (and don't even think of Pliny)

I am not quite sure how this beer is retired considering I just pick this up two weeks ago. The beer is at 46 degrees was poured into a tulip glass. A frothy and foamy one finger head tops the beer. The beer has excellent retention for a DIPA (they say it is a TIPA). The head left lacing on the glass as it slowly dissipated. The color of the beer is SRM 12 a medium amber color with reddish-orange hues. The clarity of the beer is mostly clear with a touch of haziness. No visible carbonation bubble.

Nose:
The hops profile is bright including resin, floral esters, grapefruit, lemons, and pine. Medium toasted malts with caramel, bready, a subtle sweetness, and alcohol for the rest of the aromas.

Taste:
A massive hop profile with a huge malt backbone. The hops are grapefruit, pine, lemons, floral esters, and resins. The rest of flavors are a malty sweetness, caramel, bready, alcohol, and earthiness.

The mouthfeel of the beer is astringent, dry, and chewy. The body of the beer is medium-plus, the carbon is medium, and the finish is long.

This beer often has strong malt backbone. A strong hop and malt backbone collide it tends to fight. This beer has this issue. Good beer, not sure how to sort this out.

Clear deep gold with two fingers of bone colored head that has great staying power. Rings and clouds of fine bubble lace follow the liquid level as it drops.
Smell is dank and fruity.
Taste is dank and fruity with a big malt presence. Some tropical fruit arrives as the beer warms.
Mouthfeel is heavy with good carbonation. Finish is lightly dry and balanced between the bitter and sweet.
Overall an impressive and well crafted beer.

Pours honey gold with a 2 finger white head. Recedes quickly but leaves nice sticky lacing behind.

Aroma is pineapple, orange, grapefruit, and mango. Bready malt. Mild caramel.

Intense flavor. Strong tropical and citrus notes. Big malt to counterbalance the intense hop profile. Pine towards the end.

Medium mouth feel with medium+ carbonation. Moderate bitterness balanced by the sweet malt notes.

Big hop assault with plenty of malt to give some balance.

Draught at Mikkeller SF into a goblet.

More malt character than in any Melvin beer I've had to date on the nose. Simcoe wins on the nose, though definitely some Mosaic undertones. Taste follows the nose, finishes with plenty of astringency and some bitterness, lingers a bit. Feels slick with low-medium body and plenty of carbonation. Good, but probably won't revisit.

12oz can served in a snifter. Canned on 10-02-17.

Pours a slightly hazy light golden with a medium-small head and not much carbonation. Smell is guava, citrus, alcohol, lemon.

Taste is booze and hops. Lots of citrus. Lots of everything. Super sweet, super hoppy. Floral, honey sweetness.

Mouthfeel is thick, sticky, and chewy. I like this beer.
