this is really sturdy northwestern type ipa, and it is literally taking over the world, at least here in colorado anyway. its now appearing in every liquor store and bar i walk into, and for good reason, the beer is excellent. its super robust, heavier and bigger and more bitter than a lot of what else is around here. its got some serious frothy toasted malt going on, but its not sweet from the grain. the hops are piney and bitter and highly oily, very west coast, and even seem to have some slight sweetness in them, subtle pineapple and grapefruit rind behind the pine. i am amazed just how big this feels, almost double ipa-esque, pushing 8% abv, super full bodied, oily and sticky and malty frothy and churning, and weighty and filling as they go. i see the appeal, we needed a more robust ipa like this in this market, plus, its always fresh it seems, they have it dialed it. for me though, a few of these feels like a lot of beer to drink, more than i feel like most of the time. i have a lot of love for melvin and the hoppy beers they do, and this is sort of a perfect illustration of who and what they are. glad to see it becoming so popular.

L - dark orange, very little haze, one finger head fades leaving just lacing

S - floral, sweet, hints of dank pine, grapefruit, pancake batter

T - citrus pith, lots of sweetness but not in an especially malty way, pine, smooth bitterness

F - medium minus carbonation of small bubbles, pretty thick, almost oily at first but finishes clean, really great

O - west coast but with the sweetness of new england, reminds me of Alpine Duet for example

Poured into a becher pint glass, the appearance was a ruddy burnt orange to brown hazy semi-transparent color. Finger’s worth of white foamy head dissipates at a nice pace. Mild thin stringy lace. The aroma starts with a big burst of citrus sweet pulp running over a light glossy sweet malt. Piney hops come in appropriately. The flavor leads with the citrus and piney hops and then balances semi-sweetly with the malts. Leads nice and balanced in the aftertaste bumps the finish with a mild bitterness. On the palate, this one sat about a light to medium on the body with decent sessionability about it. Carbonation feels good. Bitterness hits appropriately yet brings in with a decent smoothness to it. Overall, really nice AIPA that I would have again.

Pours a clear amber topped by a finger of thick off-white foam that only gradually reduces to lasting cap and thick clinging lace.

Bright aroma that is all about sweet and bitter citrus, with some hints of pine, even lighter floral perfume.

Taste pretty faithful to aroma, with neutral sweet and crisp grain added to balance it out. Ends fairly dry but hardly a bitter bomb.

Carb., viscosity, body, and finish all about standard for a West Coast Style IPA.

Decent beer, hardly worthy of some of the crazy praise it gets. Wouldn't kick it out of my glass, won't get again. YMMV

Pours a beautiful clear deep gold to amber with a foamy white head with good lacing. Smells of grapefruit, citrus, Pune and lightly toasted bread. Taste full of cotton candy sweetness followed by citric fruitiness and sharp crsip piney bitterness. Feel is medium carbonation, balanced (very much so), sticky, but finishes dry. Overall, this is a wonderful all day IPA unless it's summer time. Might be a bit too sticky for the heavy heats. Cheers!

Really good west coast ipa. I like the hop profile but it's not overly bitter. Super smooth feel with a sticky aftertaste that is quite nice. Diamond in the rough here.

A nice west coast IPA as I have been drinking a lot of haze lately. Pours a dark golden to copper color. Nice fluffy white head. Nose is of citrus and pine. Taste of grapefruit, oranges and pine gum. A nice well balanced malt presence. Mouthfeel has a light bit of stickyness that quickly fades to a nice dry crisp finish. Excellent finish to this one.
