On tap at Arch Bridge in Oregon City the other day.

The beer pours an orange peach color with pretty good head retention and lacing. On the nose, this is just lovely, as if I get a wonderful, perfumy aroma of dry citrus, light malt, maybe a hint of graham cracker, a hint of pine and a dash of white pepper. The flavor profile replicates the nose pretty closely in this NW style all the way IPA. The finish is dry and bitter, with a lot of up front, in your face hoppy goodness. There's enough sweet malt to balance the bitterness on the mid palate, but I love the dry, hoppy bitter finish in this beer. Mouthfeel is medium bodied, and the finish is fairly long, dry and bitter. Alcohol is barely noticeable (I was surprised by the 7.5% abv), and drinkability is terrific.

Delicious beer from the folks at Melvin.

Got this in a growler fill from Safeway in Bellingham, WA. Poured (same day as fill) into a Spiegelau IPA glass and reviewed from notes on first taste.
A - Clear amber, not a lot of puffy head like I tend to like in my IPAs, but a thin head that is consistent throughout.
S - Tropical notes dominate - mango, mandarin orange - but also a bit piney.
T - Hop and malt balance is on point. Malt sweetness dominates the front with tropical fruit hoppiness at back. Reminds me of Manila mangoes and calamansi skin/pith.
M - Pretty even body. Makes for a decent mouthfeel. Carbonation is good, which has turned out to be good for the growler fill. I've been drinking for 3 days now out of the growler, and it still has good carbonation.
O - A pleasant surprise IPA. This is higher ABV for an IPA, but it works well. Glad to have met Melvin IPA. Hope to see more of it. Paired the other night with take-out Korean food, and it went well with the spiciness.

Draft and from a bottle now... Pours clear light orange with a very nice white head... Pretty intense citrusy and pineapple hoppiness.. piney and a little dankness with warmth... Again, not as bitter as most IPA's that are this big... Very balanced and deceptively drinkable.

On tap at the Falling Rock. orange color, great head. Aroma is piney, dank, citrus, you could have told me this was from San Diego and I would believe it (makes sense given the heritage). Flavor was the same and had a nice malt backbone, almost chewy. Delicious IPA, up there with my favorites from the West Coast.

Update from the can

This beer is a perfect example of why I love west coast IPA. This is that fire you might get served at O'Brien's or Pizza Port or Hamilton's. Chronic.

Served On-Tap

A — Pours a nice orangey amber hue into the glass, with an straw colored head on top of the beer, leaves behind a nice bit of consistent lacing.

S — Smells quite piney, earthy, herbal, resinous, pithy and dank. Lots of woody, grassy, and lemony hop character.

T — Much like the nose, though not so in your face, a nice balance of pine and lemon, with a nice bit of malt sweetness to round everything out.

M — Medium bodied, great carbonation level.

O — Great overall, it's really tough to bet against Melvin. Keep up the good work.
