A 750 ml bottle with a bottled on date of 12.29.16. BA states its retired so they must have brewed a new batch. This is the Tropic King with Peaches added and aged in a whisky barrel

L - Looks like pear juice, lots of sediment and murky, bronze

S - Peaches, slightly/very slight boozy aroma

T - Peaches, citrus, belgian candy sugar - and minor whisky flavor from the aging process. Very tasty

F - full body and medium carbonation. Very nice mouthfeel

O - Take the tropic king and turn it up a notch. Very enjoyable.

this is their famous saison with fresh peaches. its a nice tweak to a great beer, but i much prefer the original. something is strange here, whether is the new zealand hops not all the way meshing with the fruit, or if the added fruit sugars have changed the yeast a little bit, there is something i cant quite place that is just off a little bit. it also tastes remarkably boozy, like it fermented to over 10% abv or something, way more alcoholic than the original has ever tasted to me. there is also more tartness to this than there is in the original, still belgiany and yeast forward in a saison sense here, but i pick up just a little bit of a pucker as well, lemony with the peaches, tastes great! the fruit is natural, but still quite sweet, and the lack of a dry finish is part of what i like less about this one. the fruit is fresh too, ripe and juicy, yet interacts with the hops in a curious way, more bitter than i remember. sometimes when you get something perfect, it doesnt make any sense to tweak it. the original tropic king needs no adjustments whatsoever, and while i like it, its less compelling by an order of magnitude than its parent beer!
