not a bad brew, but underwhelming by the very high standards funkwerks usually produced to. this is somewhere near a dubble and belgian pale hybrid, with some candy sugar feel to the grain base, and a decent hopping, but predominantly yeast driven. its not bad, just has a watery taste to it, like it should be more boldly flavored than it is. still. the soft look and mouthfeel are both attractive, and the lack of intense belgian yeast fruitiness actually adds to drinkability i think. i always sort of look for the beer these guys make to be weird on the yeast front, and this one feels peculiarly safe to me, but i dont dislike it at all. light burnt sugar sweetness to the finish is more pronounced than are the hops. pillowy in feel is its best feature. always good trying beer from these guys, but i wouldnt order this one again.

Poured on-tap at the brewery and served in a tulip, the beer is a blood red coloring, with a foamy, off-white head. Nose of muted, tangy caramel, heavy floral notes, stone fruit sweetness, and some hints of booze. Flavors are subtle caramel and fig sweetness, rich throughout, with a muted date characteristic, too. Light and crisp in mouth, with a tangy sweet aftertaste. Smooth, clean finish.

First had it on tap last September and loved it. Gave it a 4.3 (although while writing a full review I'd forgotten this, so the below review is interesting for finding a near similar score).

From a 750mL bottle into a Belgian tulip.

A- Majestic frothy head. Persists for ages. Plum skin colored body with good carbonation. 4.5

S- huge grape and plum. Sweet fruitiness like wine. Mellow floral yeastiness. Peppery. Sweet but low-key malt. 4.25

T- Sweet grapes and raisins and bubble gum and flowers. Tastes a tad like white wine. Vanilla and candy like flavor on the finish. This flavor is lovely. 4.5

M- Thinner-bodied than ideal, but that's my only complaint. Lightly sweet, a tad creamy, medium carbonation and slight bitterness. Wine-like at times. 4

Love this beer. Damn good.
