750ml brown bottle with no freshness date though there is a suggestion of cellaring this beer for no more than 2 years.

Look: Perfectly clear pale golden color, amazing display of froth and lace

Smell: Asian pear, fresh baked pita bread, dragon fruit, slightly earthy, nutty yeast, herbal, peppery phenols, very aromatic

Taste: Dry malt backbone, smooth, slight juiciness, chalky yeast, grapenuts, spicy, crackers, hay, light pepperiness, very dry finish

So flavorful with out being over the top, truly a well honed Saison that seriously rivals many of the originals from Belgium & France.

Thoroughly interesting Saison with the usual sharp flavors and a faint whiff of the barnyard. Golden color with slight chill haze in the tulip glass. Not much head nicely carbonated on the tongue. Best feature is the rich, fruity tanginess with a hint of candy. The scratchy Belgian yeast is well in evidence, but seems to mellow as you sip.

On tap at Root Down in Denver. Very drinkable and refreshing. A good example of a Saison with complex flavors leading to a slightly woody, dry finish. Not very hoppy but some bitterness. "Lemon and mashed potatoes filtered through a paper bag," is how the conoisseur on the next stool calls it.

From the bottle at SAVOR 2011. Served in a goblet.

Pours a clear yellow color with a large, fizzy white head with good spotty lacing on the way down. The nose carries some light grain plus a heavy bit of earth. Some grain and light citrus. The taste has a bit of citrus and wheat/grain plus a bit of moderate funk. Sightly earthy and heavy on the yeast. Fairly light body with good carbonation. Another nice brew from Funkwerks.

Poured down side of glass, minimal head and almost no lacing. Yellow and gold with slight haze. Smells delicious with coriander, clove, yeast, and light notes of alcohol. Initial taste was a bit flat to me, but builds upon swallow and aftertaste. Lightly sweet, spicy, and yeasty. Tastes better and bettter with each mouthfeel. Pretty good, but I like their Tropic King more.

Poured from a 750 ml bottle I received for my 50th B-day (thanks, Dan and Darla!). Poured a cloudier straw-ish color with a LOT of head that stayed for several minutes after the first pour; even had a bit of a gusher after pouring about half the bottle. Aroma was pretty good: bread with a little citrus and funk. Taste was even better than the smell: hints of citrus, bread, yeast, and Belgian spices. A nice effort by the folks in Ft Collins. Although a 750 is a bit much for me alone in a sitting, I'd probably have this again, especially if I could share and/or try it on draft.

Appearance: Enormous billowing cloud-like head that sticks around. Straw-yellow pour, a bit hazy.

Smell: Belgian yeast, light spice (coriander, white pepper), lemon zest, perhaps some bananas. Wish it had just a bit more uumph.

Taste: Similar to the smell; belgian yeast, spices like white pepper and coriander (perhaps some sage), banana. No sour or tartness or funk really (and sadly).

Mouthfeel: Almost crisp, very creamy, nice carbonation despite the huge head.

Drinkability: This would be great for sitting out on the yard or on the beach!

Fourth time having this beer. Once at Funkwerks and now the third of a four pack.

A- 12oz slim bottle poured to a snifter with a somewhat yeast hazed light golden yellow body. The head is white with a frothy texture and pretty good retention. Lacing is a mix of large sheets and drizzle.

S- Classic Saison yeast spice with a feel somewhere between pepper and coriander paired to fruit a aromas like lemon peel and pear. Slightly juicy stone fruit hint behind the rest but fairly minor.

T- Fruit notes open up a bit as a dryness sets in throughout. Tangerine, semi bitter orange peel, passion fruit and lemon match up to pepper, coriander and a certain herbal feel that could be from yeast or hops.

MF- Medium bodied for the style but finishes almost bone dry. The body has a smooth, creamy consistency even with a high end carbonation. Finishes moderately bitter and that combines with the dryness to linger on the palate.

I was a huge fan of this right off the bat at the taproom. After a few months in the bottle it has seemingly not changed and retains a nice balance of spicy yeast and fruity tones.
