Aroma is complex and fruity. Peaches, nectarines, oranges. Chamomile with some bubblegum. Fresh, floral hops. Peppery phenols.

Hazy gold/yellow with a somewhat thin white head. Good lacing, ok retention.

Full juicy fruits upfront. Apples and hay. Nectarines, white pepper, bubblegum. Fresh flowers. Light, crackery malt. More fruit than spicy.

Medium high carbonation. Spicy alcohols. A hint of creaminess. Very dry with lingering fruits and spices on the palate.

Really nice. With the fruit character, could pass as a Belgian pale, but a minor complaint.

Aroma is dry, with citrus, banana, clove, pepper and somewhat musty. Taste is similar as described above with maybe a little more earthiness and a fleshy fruit backbone. While dry and effervescent, there is a lingering component that causes me to barely detract from the mouthfeel.

Overall, a very well executed, textbook example of a Saison.

A classic slight hazed yellow pour with a white head and streaking lacing. smell is slight tart and funk, taste follows nose with classic funk and lemon spritzes wet hay and malt, high medium carbonation with a slight lemon barnyard finish. A classic American rendition of the style.

Poured from a bottle into a snifter, but have also had it on tap. It has a cloudy yellow gold color, nice thick white head and curtain lacing. Wonderful fruity sweet smell. The taste is classic, lemony, spicy and refreshing. Great beer!

A: Pours a basically clear straw/yellow color. A towering and rocky white head forms that has excellent retention and lace is left all the way down the glass.
S: Lightly phenolic, but not nearly as plastic like that some American examples can be. Peppery spice, fruity esters of pears and apples. Pale, cracker like malts. Excellent.
T: Like the nose, lightly phenolic without being plastic in anyway. Fruity esters, peppery spice that follow the nose as well. Pears, apples, even banana like esters. Pale cracker and biscuit malts. Maybe a touch of earthy bitterness lingers. Excellent.
M/D: A light body that is perfectly crisp and supper clean. Beautifully dry as well. So enjoyable to drink, the bottle is gone in no time.

Something I can keep coming back to again and again. While this might not be as great as Saison Dupont, it is not far behind. While being about $10 a 4 pack, this will be an easy regular in my fridge. Something I have always enjoyed when I had the chance, and am very glad this is going to be easy to get in Houston now.

Vintage 2014.
Standard-looking cloudy saison with tons of carbonation. Smells lightly tart and slightly moldy in a good way. Lots of yeast on the nose. Flavor is very bright without being acidic and there is a small malt sweetness that can be described as bold for the style. Really delicious. Mouthfeel is simultaneously somewhat thick for a saison but complements the big flavors beautifully.
Very surprised by how much I enjoyed this beer, and I'm happy I waited a few years for it. This saison could stand a year or two more and continue to develop well. Excellent!

look: 3.75 | smell: 3.5 | taste: 3.25 | feel: 3.75 | overall: 3.5

Mega murk- very cloudy light golden body reminiscent of cloudy apple juice, coarse white flocculate head, strong stream of bubbles. Nose has panda pepper- a mix of black and white varieties- with yeast and a touch of sourdough bread. Taste is also vey heavy on the pepper notes, with plenty of yeast contributing quite a funky character. A bit of lemon and tropical fruit breaks the overwhelming spice here and there, but it's fleeting. Body is crisp with aggressive, brutish carbonation.
Perhaps a better base would have allowed to this magical yeast to show its potential, but nearly all it produced here was heavy handed, simple, almost overpowering pepper. Some raw yeast funk and pleasant but weak fruit was present, but it was not enough to make this a very tasty beer. Relying on the yeast alone to make a beer great works only when it... well... works.

Poured from tap into shaker pint, nice creamy 1 finger head. Hazy golden to look at. Smells of standard saison esters. Taste of fruity peach, lemon with a mild spicy finish. Not overly dry, I feel this is one of the better crafted saisons out there, great mouthfeel

Served in a Goose Island Vintage glass, it pours a murky, hazy orange of a pale hue. It forms a two-finger head, white, sudsy and creamy, with excellent retention. The head dissipates until it leaves a permanent thin layer of foam. The lacing in this beer is nice.

The bouquet is very appealing.
Mainly fruity, passion fruit, lemon, peach, melon, tangerine citrusy and slightly tart. You get a hint of biscuit, and lots of spices.

Amazing flavor, so, so rounded.
Upfront a nice carbonation, lower to that of other examples within this style. Then, the flavor onslaught hits you. Fruity notes again, melon, peach, lemon, banana, and huge spices as in clove and pepper. That flavor lingers until it becomes more malty and yeasty, and it even reaches a faint note of vanilla. The aftertaste is long, semi-dry, slightly bitter and yeasty.
There is a great balance to this beer, although due to its subtle acidity and its semi-dry finish, you get more bitterness than sweetness. The flavors are very nicely intertwined.
Medium body, very, very smooth.

A world class saison for sure.

Velvety, substantive, layered, and sublime. This is a very nice American brewed Saison, incorporating sparkling flavors of red fruits, banana, spice, and cracked barley. Well worth seeking out, and much better than I remember from years ago when Funkwerks was the new kid on the block.

12 oz tried to be poured into a Spiegelau glass but I was only able to get half before the head almost flowed over bottled on 7/3/15

A: huge big bubbles fluffy head lot of bubbles in the hazy yellow bdy looks like the carbonation is through the roof

S: has a nice lemon peppery banana nose and some clove

T: light banana and clove with a touch of tartness the carbonation makes it feel spicy on the tongue

M: very effervescent and lively crisp and a dryer finish

O: A very easy drinking beer I like that the belgian yeast isn't over powering cloying banana and clove. Its there but bam its gone after it hits and the little bit of tartness and big carbonation makes this beer very refreshing.

I drank this 1 year after bottle date.

The color is very light yellow, with a giant white head that fades slowly. Lacing is moderate.

Smell is yeast and malt, with sour fruit notes. Taste is only slightly tart, with Belgian yeast and malt taking center stage. Mouthfeel is crisp and bubbly, which pairs well with the tangy flavor profile.

Overall this is a solid offering, and I will buy again if I can find it.

Pours a clear, gold color. 3/2 inch head of a white color. Great retention and great lacing. Smells of wheat, yeast, sweet malt, slight pale malt, hops, hint of alcohol, and slight spice. Fits the style of a Saison / Farmhouse Ale. Mouth feel is sharp and clean, with an average carbonation level. Tastes of wheat, yeast, sweet malt, slight pale malt, hops, hint of alcohol, slight spice, hint of earthy malt, and a hint of grass. Overall, good appearance, aroma, and decent body and blend.

Appearance: This might be the most authentically Belgian pour I have ever seen from a domestically produced beer; pours a huge billowy head atop the hazy honey colored liquid; excellent stickage and swathes of lacing linger

Smell: Phenolically bready and earthy, with lemon, banana, white pepper, melon, graham cracker, brown sugar, pear....the list goes on and on

Taste: Bready, up front, with growing tones of lemon, white pepper, graham cracker, banana, pear, streusel topping; slightly herbal, grassy and increasingly phenolic, after the swallow, with hints of funk and sugar cookie in the finish

Mouthfeel: Medium body with moderate to high carbonation

Overall: I may have cellared this just a little bit beyond the two year limit but, regardless of that, this is a phenomenal beer; one of the best examples of a domestic Saison I have encountered

Great American saison!
L - Slightly hazy yellow/golden. White head but was gone quick.
S- breads malt, honey and some farmhouse funk.
T- simple but really well executed! Taste follows nose. Delicate honey bread malt, subtle spice and a very slight grassy hops and the funky yeast esters you expect from a good saison. Really good stuff!
O- great saison from a great brewery.

Look:
Poured out of a 750ml bottle with HUGE amounts of billowy foam. The head retention is substantial with replenishing armies of bubbles from below. This beer is a nice hazy straw color.

Smell:
Very aromatic with smells of fresh cut grass, fruit, herbs, coriander, and other spices. There is a slight apple and white wine aroma as well.

Taste:
You are instantly greeted with a tart and slight sour furity bite (apple / white wine / grape –possibly some from hops). Next is a hefty round of earthy flavors of wheat, malt, herbs, and spices. There is a dry finish and it fades into a smooth citrusy bready yeasty flavor.

Feel:
Very effervescent on the tongue and light to medium body. There is a nice champagne feel to this saison. There is also a dry finish.

Overall:
This is a very good saison as it is only on the slight sour side with enough malt and spice flavors to keep it balanced and very interesting. The earthiness and fruitiness are quite pleasing.

L (4.5) - Light golden-yellow color with the nice fluffy lacing you'd expect.
S (4.25) - Smells kinda "funky" at first. Not especially fruity smelling, but almost like a sour and a little bit of spice. Intriguing for sure!
T (4.5) - Didn't taste like it smelled. Definitely has that spicy/peppery flavor going on. Not an overly noticeable hop presence, but a little bit of the fruit flavor you'd expect
F (4.25) - Nice light-bodied mouthfeel. Plenty carbonated, but drinks easy.
O (4.25) - I'm not quite a Saison expert, but I really liked this one. A nice, light, easy-drinking beer, that is surprisingly complex. I haven't had any other Funkwerks beers, but I will change that soon. Impressed.

A very light slightly cloudy yellow with a nice white head. Nose is funky and fruit.
Taste is very nice. Especially since it is summer. This is a light tasting beer with good citrus fruit and carbonation. Quite refreshing. Can't say much wrong ab out this beer. It follows the saison style and is very tasty.

It has been awhile since I had this beer. Traditionally in 750mL bottles, this new 11 oz bottle is so much more practical.

Pours a hazy yellow, with a two finger head (on a gentle pour) into a Duvel glass.

Aroma yields tons of lemon and a nice spicy yeast.

Taste is absolutely fantastic! Super clean and crisp. It tastes like a spicier version of Duvel. This beer has ample carbonation (something I am a fan of). Definitely get the lemon, yeast, and slight pepperiness. I also get a mild hop presence, but this beer is by no means bitter.

While this beer in not mind-blowingly spicy, it is so well-balanced. Again, it is akin to Duvel. I highly recommend the new 11 oz bottles. I would definitely buy the beer again. I would pair this with almost anything. I could see this paired with something fancy like steak, foie gras, and lobster to something relaxed like pizza or burgers! It gets a solid 95.5/100

Admittedly a newcomer to the great world of beer, but this is by and far the best I've ever tried. I'm one for fruity tastes, and this has the best I've ever tasted. Easy going down, and leaves a nice taste in your mouth.

Banana, clove, pepper, orange, wheat.

Poured into a chalice glass.

A: 4.25 - Pale gold, a tad hazy, with lots of fine streaming bubbles coming from the bottom of the glass. Modest head with nice lacing.
S: 4.5 - Delightful nose with earthy hoppiness, soft yeasty phenols, fruitiness that gives hints of fresh citrus.
T: 4.5 - Initial moderately high bitterness gives way to peppery, very slightly medicinal phenols, with lots of fresh fruitiness, like the nose, tending citrus, perhaps a touch vanilla as well.
M: 4.75 - Soft texture but with plenty of spritzy carbonation. This isn't an undercarbonated one like many US examples.
O: 4.5 - Very, very good. As good as Saison Du Pont. What a glorious beer!
