This beer was brewed with a blend of Rochefort and English Ale yeast strains, with cocoa nibs added to the secondary fermentation. Bomber poured into a tulip glass. Poured dark red with a two-finger white head. The aroma suggested some caramel, biscuit, bread, dark fruit and some toffee. The flavors suggested the same along with some molasses and a touch of cocoa perhaps. Medium-bodied. Overall, a very nice sessionable beer in honor of this beer enthusiast. I sure hope there’s a beer made in my honor (since I'm a mega enthuaist as well) in the distant future. :)

750 ML bottle poured into an oversized wine glass. Out of the bottle the liquid comes out a light brown slightly darker than cola but it it becomes a very dark brown as it pools up in the glass. Tiny bubbles in the glass that are a local fresh eggshell color. Good lacing and glass retention. It's a very nice looking beer.

Smells great. Nice grain bill that smells sweet. Belgian type yeasty with some candied sugar that give it a grapy/raisiny type smell.

Taste is on par with the smell. Nice malt bill with sweet honey and candy sweetness, like rock candy sweetness. Again there are the grape and raisin flavors same as the smell. The nice herbal and natural sweetness are in the flavors as well.

Mouthfeel is awesome. Full flavor while being fairly light on the tongue. Nice silky carbonation level with sweetness in between a nice dry, bitter finish that's somewhere between earthy and clean. Very drinkable, a nice sipper but could go much quicker than expected. Thanks Geoff, solid solid beer.

Collaborative beer brewed at Funkwerks by Funkwerks, New Belgium, Odells, Ska, and Crooked Stave, in memory of Danny Williams. On tap at O'Brien's.

A: Dark reddish brown with a substantial frothy beige head.

S: Robust fruity esters, redolent of plum, grape, date, and prune. Candied sweetness with rich bread and toasted notes. Lightly spicy.

T: Big caramel and bready malt notes with a strong dark fruit presence. Dark cherry accompanies plum, grape, and raisin. There's a hint of tartness and a candied sweetness throughout. Alcohol warms the palate in the finish but imparts very little flavor.

M: Upper medium body with medium carbonation.

Overall: A tasty Belgian Strong Dark. Recommended.

Appearance: Pours a cloudy cola color with a rather modest head that fades to a ringlet/archipelago; splashy lacing is observed

Smell: Spice cake and fruit cakes tones, bringing candied cherry, plum and the spice cake elements

Taste: Spice cake forward, with developing fruit cake flavors; through the middle, the spices and dark fruits intermingle with a hint of candi sugar adding sweetness through the finish; strong tones of plum linger in the aftertaste

Mouthfeel: Medium to full body with moderate carbonation

Overall: This a pretty darn good cover of a BSPA; hardly ever see domestic brewers tackle the style and even fewer do it successfully; the mouthfeel could be a bit more effervescent to keep up with the Belgian style but I find that challenge almost impossible for domestic brewers to achieve

Thanks, jaydoc, for the opportunity

Silky, three-finger, tan, head. Brew is nut brown with tons of black.

Not a whole lot of Belgian scents going on. Caramel-y chocolate nuttyness.

Great smoothness and very little bitterness, heat hits you in the back of the throat. Not slight fruity flavor in silky chocolate.

An awesome collaboration between Colorado's best brewers. Exactly what I thought it would be. Great Dark Belgian.

Sampling courtesy of friend Paul B. Poured at a good temperature with a nice, foamy, tan head that soon settles and no lace. Aroma is fairly mild with only slight whiffs of dark, ripe fruit, malt and some metallic notes (iron?). Flavor’s much like nose, with some bitterness and carbonic tang balancing a slight sweetness. Body and carbonation are good. Finish is like flavor, slightly long and very drinkable. I’d have another if I could.

a collaborative effort between the fort collins heavy hitters and ska down in durango. a tribute to this guy who apparently had some 4000 beers aging in his family's old gold mine when he died, sweet. purchased for 15 or 16 bucks at odell brewing. this one pours a crazy rich mahogany to molassas color, not brown or red, with a tall tan head that leaves outstanding lacing. smells unreal, rich spicy belgian yeast, doughy wheat and caramel malts, and a decidedly funky finish. flavor is quite balanced, but i feel the booze right away. sweet belgian yeast and sugary notes come out, oak, and half of my spice rack. feel is good, tons of body for the style, enjoyable, memorable, different. carbonation is where it needs to be. i could not drink a whole one of these... well i could, but id be wasted i think. this was one to share around the table with family and friends and hope to high heaven we get some more of these collaborations. onya danny!
