First off, Funkwerks, come to New Mexico already. Send us your beer. We'll drink lots of it. That's what we do well in New Mexico. I'm not even making that up, we have some of the highest consumption per capita in the US. Y'all can make lots of dinero.

Second, I like this tiny little spot. It's a bit misleading as you pull up, since the place looks like a house from a Brothers Grimm story or like a tiny B&B. Bottom line, it looks small. Inside, yep, it is small. It's a small taproom, but on the Saturday I visited, there were maybe two other people there, so space was not an issue. There seemed to be a small outdoor area too, but I didn't check it out.

The beers here, yes they do include some sours (really more tart than sour, most of their beers), but a better descriptor for this brewery is a Belgian-style brewing company. There were a number of saisons/farmhouse ales on tap when I arrived and I got to try most of them. I forget the price, but for about $10 I got about 5 ounces of four different beers.

Of their year-round offerings, the Saison and Tropic King are both excellent and very approachable. The latter has a big bubblegum aroma and flavor and is on the sweeter, maltier side. These are beers anyone can get down to. Both of these beers were part of my flight and delicious. Both of these beers are in the 4/5 area.

Remi's Rye was a limited or seasonal offering available when I was there and it was great. I was crushed to discover there weren't bottles of this brew for sale in the cooler in the taproom. Remi's Rye was a 4.25/5

Raspberry Provincial I had to pay extra for, but I was happy to and got a half pour for a very reasonable price. I again love this beer, love the light, fruity wine-like character from the raspberries and the agreeable tartness. I would have bought many bottles of this but it was, again, not available in the cooler. Boohoo.

Redemption came though, in the form of Dahlia. This is a big beer, but very drinkable and creamy. I can scarcely recall the details (this was stop three after NB and Odell), but I remember loving it and picking up a bottle (yes, this one was in the cooler). This beer is like a 4.3/5. Just excellent.

I also tried the Sorachi, which as the name suggests (I think!) is brewed, or maybe dry-hopped with Sorachi hops. It was a tasty saison with a different hop profile that I enjoyed. Again, I should have taken notes, but I can assure you it was good. 4/5

Overall, Funkwerks is a great stop, particularly if you're fortunate enough to arrive and have the place all to yourself. The service was friendly (one person behind the bar) and the artwork a nice distraction. There are a few nice shirts and hats for sale and of course, beer to go.

Got out of Denver for the day to visit Glenn up in Fort Collins, breweries will most definitely be in order. I am seriously contemplating pointing the car north and running up to Cheyenne later for the hell of it. I’m sure nobody would notice until the ‘Welcome to Wyoming’ sign and by that time it’s too late. But for now, we’ll see what’s about town. My first visit up here was back in ’04 when we came out for the GABF and knew enough to hoof it up to New Belgium to procure our obligatory 2 (and only 2) bottles of La Folie. I believe there were 3 breweries in town at the time; there are a lot more now. Well, we’re 2 breweries in thus far and it’s early yet…

Little little not a lot to it, or seemingly so. I mean, it’s a single room space at all appearances. Rounded gray slab with black & white amoebas floating topped corner bar with a vertical corrugated base framed, and seating for 6 on high stools. 14 alt colored logo lollipop handles on a panel box on the back wall. Peg board tap board above with tap selections printed on slat boards over flight choices below, and glassware shelved down under.

Horizontal wood framed walls most of the way up 3 sides around windowed and dealt light art. White painted wall uppers and ceiling with ductwork & track spots, and some drop single filament bulbs over the bar. Slat wood floors. Bottle cooler on the outer wall and swag & shirt box. More of that on the back lime green wall (shirt unit boxed and cornered and hats alongside). A single shelf above with GABF medals and World Beer Cup Awards. Snacks over the window atop a stemmed glassware dangle rack with sampler paddles hooked to both sides.

15 beers up just now; Year round beers (Saison, 6.8%; White, 4.8%; Tropic King, Imperial Saison, 8%; Raspberry Provincial, Sour Ale with Raspberries, 4.2%), Boutique Beers (Hella Helles, 5%; Rhuberry Provincial, Sour Ale with Strawberries & Rhubarb, 4.2%; Pineapple Guava Provincial, Sour Ale with Pineapple & Guava, 4.2%; Ginger Pineapple Provincial, Sour Ale with Ginger & Pineapple, 4.5%; Southern Passion Saison, Hoppy Saison, 7.1%; Surprise IPA, 6.8%; MIHO, Belgian Pale Ale, 5.5%), and Barrel Aged Boutique Beers (Saison D’Brett, Foudre Saison with Brett, 7.6%; Kriek, 6.5%; Barrel Aged Tropic King, Barrel Aged Sour Imperial Saison, 9.9%; Level 13, Belgian Style Super Duper Ale, 13%). Beers are served in 5oz tasters and 12oz full pours.

You know I’m all about the Pineapple Guava Provincial, right? Guava makes everything better, it’s true. Damn tasty. Rhuberry Provincial, too. Strawberry is not the easiest fruit to work with, but yeah, that’s good. And as I’d not gotten to the Saison D’Brett yet, I did just that. Well done.

There’s some sort of barrel room to the rear that’s closed off just now. I want to go to there. A handful of raised roundie tables riddled about, seating in the barrel room, and shared hightop & umbrella’d picnics penned outside.

I could do some time here, fo' reals. Nice folks, and the beers are very good. Solid joint!

Great vibe, had dishes out for the dogs which was helpful. Staff was friendly and quick to serve us our beer. Loved the provincials, but as I am not much of a belgian fan, the selection was rather limited.

Vibe: Outside isn't real nice but inside you forget. Generally pretty quiet and laid back. It's a small taproom and there are no TVs.
Quality: Great beers with a variety of styles/flavors
Service: Great personal service and attention from the staff of bartenders
Selection: Huge selection of draft beers and to-go bottles. Many more choices than you get in stores. Often have 2 Randles going.

Coolest bar I've ever been at. I thought their sessions were pretty decent also. They have an outside section with cornhole and monster jenga and all kind of other board games. They also do tours which was really cool.

Great little place just short distance from Odell and other breweries.

Cool small tasting room/gift shop upon entering. It was crowded in the front, but in the barrel room out back they have more seating on picnic tables, so we set up shop there with our taster tray.

Quality is quite good. These guys aren't quite at Crooked Stave/Casey's level, but they aren't to far behind when it comes to Saisons/Sours. Plus they had a nice wide selection of beers to choose from.

Service was really good, place was busy, but we were quickly served by the very pleasant staff up front.

Great place to put on any beer tour through Fort Collins.
