8 ounce pour at Bar Great Harry.

Looks like everything I love in a Westbrook stout. Thick, burly and rich and viscous. Frothy cocoa head. Plentiful lace.

Smell has touch of raspberry and a chocolatey base. Flavor is the same. It took me a while to really enjoy this, but as the beer warmed the flavors popped a bit more and it became dessert-like.

Feel was, again, typical of WB's stout. Touches of tartness from the raspberry that played well with the sweeter elements.

Dark black draft pour with dark tan head; quick cap reduction; thick lace rings glass, then goes spotty. Aromas include fruit and chocolate, berries, sugary plums and cranberry juice. Flavors of chocolate, raspberries, roasted malt, sweet plums, bittersweet dark chocolate with cocoa powder finish medium plus carbonation; smooth, rich mouthfeel; drying cocoa powder tongue coating; Overall, an outstanding stout; great balance between fruit, chocolate, toast and just a little alcohol hidden behind all the fruit.

I am sad that i don't like this. Lots of raspberry, but I'm getting a strange smell and taste of BBQ or liquid smoke. That taste is mainly in the begining, and fades to just raspberries and dark chocolate. Too thin also. I got an extra, anyone wanna trade?

Darkest brown pour is topped with a couple fingers of dark tan head, finally just a nice skim and thick ring.

Raspberry jam and chocolate dominate an aroma that also has mere hints of roast and coffee.

Creamy raspberry jam and dark chocolate are the stars here. Burnt caramel notes appear as it warms. Light spicy alcohol notes and roasty goodness end the sip just dry enough. Simple and delicious.

High carb. for style, light/med. body, nice finish, clean and bright flavors.

Very tasty and simple stout that delivers some deliciousness in a refreshing way.

one of the last beers from the legendary box i received from wcu80 a few months back. had been saving this for a special occasion and finally had one yesterday. such a cool brew, dark dark brown, nearly black, super shiny, and without much head after a moment. viscous and slick. smells great, lots of dark chocolate both from the nibs and from the malts, which are roasty and earthy and quite intense. i dont smell the fruit anywhere near as much as i taste it, so when i take the first sip, i am pretty floored by the fresh raspberry pungency right smack in the middle of the trip. its tart and sweet at the same time, somehow so bold that it pushes right through all the heavy flavors and textures of a base beer like this to be the most dominant flavor going. there is a pucker from them more than a preserved jammy sweetness, almost serves to cut the weight of the stout. the fruit aspect of this is really amazing. i like the bitter chocolate too, it provides some balance and keeps this from getting too sugary later on. its delicious all together, and while i dont get much vanilla, i dont really miss it either. there is enough going on here. tons and tons of body with very little carbonation, it drinks a little slow because of that. filling and desserty, but also really good and distinct. one of the better uses of fruit in a big stout out there in my opinion. thanks again to wcu80 for this awesome bottle. it was shared with good friends and all were stoked. lovely and memorable brew.

On tap at CBC 2016. Pitch black with a tall espresso head. Tons of chocolate in the nose. Tastes like chocolate, cocoa, coffee. A lot of chocolate in the aftertaste, without the usual malt roastiness. Excellent.

Shared with a friend. Pours a pitch black. Can pickup a little of the raspberry on the nose. The flavor was a very good blend of both raspberry and chocolate, which is hard to do on 2 very big flavors. The sweetness of the raspberry enhanced the chocolate flavoring, turning it into one of the sweeter chocolate outings I have had in a while.

My only knock on the beer comes from my pour. There was a lot of residual yeast that was at the bottom of the bottle that I was unaware of. While my friend got nothing, his pour remained black throughout. During the enjoyment of my glass, my beer went from black, to looking like a nitro pour, then ended up looking like dirt brown water.

On tap.

Aroma: lots of raspberry.

Flavor: rich and fruity. Although the flavor suggests the raspberry might be overpowering it is not. It is strongly present, however, and contributes to the sense that the ale is a bit too sweet.
