22 oz bottle at the brewer for on site consumption only. Apparently this beer was so popular they redid it but only for on site consumption. Alternatively called BA "cocoanaughty". Poured into a small snifter glass.

A: Jet black bodied with a relatively tiny head that disappeared quickly.

S: Tons of chocolate upfront rich dark bakers chocolate then you get layers of coconut and almonds with a layered toffee, leather bourbon characteristic with some vanilla. The Almonds and Coconut really stand out once you get past the miles of chocolate as it first hit your nose.

T: Lots of thick decadent dark chocolate with lighter hints of coconut and a fairly strong almond flavor. The bourbon works well but is very dialed back just get some of the toffee and leather tastes, not boozy as all finishes strong dark chocolate thick and fairly sweet.

M: Really thick and chewy, which is surprising for a Barrel aged beer, but it had a great creamy mouthfeel although I think it was a tad too sweet.

O: This is a fantastic beer, do not know if it was worth what I paid for it but it was definitely good. Would recommend not tackling this by yourself the richness and sweetness of the beer would make getting through a 22 oz bomber by yourself difficult.

Shared with JLindros.

A - Poured into a Kate the Great tulip a nice dark inky black hue with a nice mocha head that fades to leave a nice mocha halo and light blanket.

S - Aromas of nice chocolate, rich and strong, very nice bourbon notes, rich and heavy, very light coconut.

T - Taste is similar to the nose, excellent chocolate powder notes along with chocolate syrup. Very nice bourbon, great barrel notes. The coconut is rather subdued unfortunately.

M - Mouthfeel is nicely carbonated, creamy.

O - Overall this was a rather solid stout, very good bourbon and chocolate notes. Really wish thethere was more coconut though.

Thanks to rudzud, 12/28/15

Big fluffy dark mocha head fades slowly with decent lacing, pitch black beer.

Nose tons of fudge, cocoa, dark choc, caramel, some cocoa and coffee, roasted coffee, little nougat, little roasty char, plenty of bourbon too, toasted barrel, little coconut.

Taste tons of choc, dark choc cocoa, little fudge, caramel, touch of cookie dough, nice bourbon, vanilla nougat barrel, mild coconut notes, little shredded coconut covered dark choc, little candy, little roasted coffee but not acrid, little bitter roast, light milk choc fudge, nougat, etc. Finish is dry little sticky, big dark choc cocoa, touch coconut, decent vanilla bourbon barrel.

Mouth is fuller bod, decent carb, little fudgey chewy, very little booze.

Overall very nice.

650 mL bottle. Black body with a small khaki head. Lots of coconut on the nose. Some bourbon. A little chocolate. Some soy sauce. Tastes of oak up front. Vanilla and bourbon . Then coconut takes over for just about the rest of the flavor. Some nutty bitterness in the back end. Medium heavy. Drinks pretty easily for its size. Tons of coconut and a nice bourbon flavor.

drank at Westbrook on 7/26/2016

This pours a really nice creamy dark, dark brown body with a thin tan head. Really nice aroma of the nuts and coconut. Really cocoa-potent which I love. The coconut is subtle in the nose and a little more prevalent in the taste. The taste is where the bourbon and oak and vanilla really shine. The flavors are molded really well together. Nothing earth shattering in boldness, but a nice smooth well balanced bba stout. Would love to have one of these to age. Really getting more and more impressed with the WB barreling.

Dark color with some lacing. The nose is a balance of coconut and cocoa with some of the barrel. The taste is a mellow blend of everything, none of the characteristic take front stage. Very good smoothness. Overall an impressively enjoyable beer.

This is divine. I loved the non-BA version, but the barrel only adds another level of complexity to an already excellent beer. Coconut and cocoa nibs still front and center. Silky smooth. Fantastic work by WB

A - Pours a thick deep brown (near black) with minimal head (even with an extremely aggressive pour). Limited retention, no lacing.

S - Tons of sweet chocolate, a little peaty, mostly sweet boozyness. Minimal coconut sweetness peaks through

T - Drink near room temperature for sure. When colder mostly just boozy sweetness and chocolate. Once it warms ample chocolate but coconut sweetness peaks through, middle/finish is still mostly boozy sweetness.

M - Full bodied, thick and sticky - wonderful.

O - I'd recommend waiting until at least August to allow the boozyness to fade a bit and the sweetness to balance out. Great beer now, almost garunteed to be a top WB beer with some age, get it if you can

Wow is all I can say. Great stout with the flavors and barrel blending very well. Minimal coconut and a touch thin my only two complaints on this beer. Very reminiscent of prop 14.

Westbrook BA 4th
8oz pour on tap at the brewery

Review from notes taken a couple of weeks ago.

A: jet black, small tan head, dissipates fairly quickly, essentially no lacing 4.25

S: big barrel notes with oaky vanilla and peat, decent amount of chocolate and some roasted malt; cinnamon, very subtle toasted coconut that I probably wouldn't have noticed if I didn't know what the beer was; great combination of sweet, barrel and roast; wonderful nose 4.5

T: lots of chocolate, lots of barrel, subtle nutty character; again the coconut is subtle but is pleasant with a nice toasted character on the finish, there's also a sweet dark fruit like character on end of each sip and some black coffee bitterness; 4.5

M/D: full bodied, fairy smooth for the style, carbonation higher than I anticipated but appropriate, drinkability is very good 4.5

O: The coconut is more subtle than I anticipated but it's a wonderful barrel aged stout. 4.5

Poured from a 22 oz bomber into a snifter. smells of bourbon and chocolate with a hint of coconut. Taste like chocolate and bourbon up from with almonds in the back end. Coconut comes through as a mouth wide aftertaste. Great beer!

Wow. I loved the original, but I actually think this barrel aged version beat it out. I did notice that the barrel presence overpowered the coconut. Even though I drank this super fresh, I got almost no coconut. I imagine that is because it spent so much time in the barrel. Either way this is a fantastic beer.

On Tap @ Westbrook:

Pours thick and dark with minimal head. Even cold the nose is lovely with coconut, chocolate, and bourbon...surprise! lol
Very smooth with lost of bourbon but not hot at all. The chocolate and coconut seem to mesh well with the barrels and this drinks easy. Wish I could have gotten another pour!

Upfront I get toasted coconut, vanilla, and chocolate covered bourbon balls. The coconut persists in a Almond Joy candy chocolate sweetness. Light malty nuttiness, toffee and a smidge of caramel finish an Utterly fantastic beer!

Look - Pours oily black with a mocha colored thin head. Looks like coffee with light cream.

Smell - Sweet bourbon, caramel, chocolate.

Taste - Follows the smell, except for the added notes of coconut and a toasted almond. Those flavors add balance to the sweetness of the main flavors.

Feel - Thick and oily, moderate carbonation.

Overall - An improvement on what I view as Westbrook's best beer.

Dark, not too thick bodied. Medium tan head, which dissipates quickly. Better when allowed to warm to just under normal room temp. Lots of coconut and chocolate on the nose. This is much better than the 4th anniversary from last year (and that was a pretty solid beer). Additional coconut was added just before bottling. This beer stands head and shoulders above any of this year's BA Cakes (including Pappy IMHO).

Wow, whatever mystical barrels Westbrook uses it completely changes their beers. Wasn't the biggest fan of the regular but this blew me away. Minimal head on the pour, coconut / chocolatey bourbon on the nose. Great mouthfeel with all the flavors coming together in harmony without being overly sweet. Will seek out more, one of the best Westbrook beers to date.

Poured from Bomber, pitch black pour, thin dark khaki head..
nose is strong on coconut and rich bourbon ....
taste is a nice amount of coconut upfront, which quickly (compared to Prop 13 and Snowed In) fades into the nutty flavors that finish it.... Bourbon is very present but balanced, in no way "hot"....
A nice mouthfeel with medium thickness
Overall an excellent beer, very balanced among different flavors, also well balanced in that there's some sweetness but not so much you couldn't kill the bottle in a sitting ...
