Hazy, copper colored brew with a sticky head that leaves lacing everywhere. The aroma is sweet like candy with flowers and pine. The taste is sweet upfront with some floral notes that finishes with a massive pine bitterness. Pretty solid IPA.

Poured from a 22oz bottle into a Speiglau IPA glass.

Look is a darker gold, hazy, with a frothy white head.

Aroma is dark malt balanced out with nuanced hops. Citrus giving way to a bitter grassy.

Hops are up front on the palate, rich and bitter more herbal and bitter than light and citrus.

Definitely a different kind of IPA living in a citrus IPA world. Excellent.

Bottled on 3/15/16.Pours into an imperial nonic a dull burnt orange with a large billowing white fluffy head that settles nicely into a frothy mass.Sugary sweet alcohol and tropical-like fruity hops in the nose, the alcohol creeps into the equation as it warms.Sharp pithy grapefruit rind up front on the palate than the big sugary sweetness sets in and kinda takes over into the finish. The hops are big but the sweetness and alcohol kinda become intertwined making for quite a sweet DIPA sadly.

A: Pours a relatively clear medium brassy yellow in color with moderate amounts of active visible carbonation and moderate golden yellow highlights. The beer has a finger tall dense foamy light beige head that slowly reduces to a large patch of medium thick film covering about 90% of the surface of the beer with a thin film covering the remainder of the surface and a thick ring at the edges of the glass. Moderate to significant amounts of lacing are observed.

S: Moderate to strong aromas of tropical/mango, tropical/peach, pine/resin, and citrus/grapefruit hops over the top of sweet caramel malts with a hint of honey.

T: Upfront there is a moderate flavor of sweet caramel malts with a light to moderate amount of honey sweetness. That is followed by strong flavors of tropical/mango, tropical/peach, pine/resin, and citrus/grapefruit pith hops which impart a moderate to strong amount of aggressive lingering bitterness.

M: Slightly heavier than medium bodied with moderate amounts of carbonation. Light to moderate amounts of alcohol warming in the finish.

O: Very good but not great, in a crowded field of DIPAs now available. The alcohol and aggressive pine hoppiness make this beer a little less easy to drink than some of the others in the style. I wish the flavor matched better with the aroma and did not have quite so much aggressive bitterness.

On draft at the Draft House in Auburn. I have to say for this is the beer I liked least from Westbrook. The beer looked and smelled like a typical IPA. The taste was nothing but bitter and these days that doesn't go very far. I had it side be side with Hitchhiker from good people and couldn't tell the difference as they were both quite generic.

I do not review often. But I must review and warn folks on this one. And no this is not a troll post. If it gets reported or taken down so be it.

Drank 4/12, 22oz bottle. Bottled 3/15, Atlanta distro

Aroma: smelled of medicine and plastic grocery bags. A turn off right from the start

Look: Copper, muddled.

Taste: Followed the nose. Sweet up front like medicine, follows with a harsh bitter middle. It leaves a nasty plastic taste in the mouth for a long while. This is probably the most unbalanced beer I have ever tasted.

Feel: Full body, thick like Nyquil.

Overall: Repulsive drain pour. I could not bring myself to drink even 10 of the ounces. I understand everyone has a different palate but as a hop head with exorbitant experience with IPA and other hoppy beers, this was utterly undrinkable. If still interested I recommend trying on draft with a small pour first before spending $9.
Cheers!

Medium gold and just shy of clear ale with a fat ivory white foam head that persisted as a light frothy cap and some sparse lace down the glass. Solid DIPA with lotsa of bitterness, bright orchard and citrusy fruits with tacky pine edges. A little resinous shellac on the finish, light on the tongue. Big bitterness lays itself out amid the softer fruits. Medium-to-full-bodied, amply carbonated, smooth drinkability... So while you're almost out of time on this batch I'd say it's another worthwhile pick from Westbrook.

Drank on 4/6 out of a 22oz bottle in a wine glass. fancy as fuck.
Bottle date 3/15

Look - Coppery and slightly opaque

Smell - If the taste followed the smell more closely, this beer would score a lot higher with me. Lots of tropical fruit and resiny pine.

Taste - Taste follows the nose but in the end it's mostly just bitterness. I like some bitterness at the back end but it's mostly bitter all the way through after the initial taste.

Feel - Bubbly and full bodied. Doesn't stick to the mouth too hard, and has a nice subtle burn.

Overall - I have to say I'm a little disappointed. First time I had this was on tap in Charleston and was impressed enough to buy two bottles of it a few weeks later when I found it in NYC. I drank it well within the 30 day recommendation but it's possible that it just lost a lot of it's character in it's travel up to new york and while sitting on the shelf.

Bottle dated 3/7/2016

A-a clear golden orange color with a fingers worth of white head that leaves a nice layer of lace around the top

S-smells of citrus, some tropical fruits and light pine with a caramel malt backbone

T-taste is much more bitter than the smell would suggest. Still has a malty backbone but not getting much citrus or fruit in the taste.

M-medium body, light to moderate carbonation

Overall the beer has a nice aroma but the taste is a bit too bitter and one dimensional for my liking

Bottled March 7, 2016

L - Pours a hazy golden amber body with a one finger eggshell head. The head has good retention, but not much lacing on the glass.

S - Citrus and floral aromas are woven together with a malty backbone. The smell isn't in your face and can come off as faint. I really wish the nose was a bit more powerful.

T - Piney and malty, about the only thing I'm getting. Has a bitter finish. To me, it's too malty and bitter to pick out the finer aspects of the beer.

F - Medium bodied and medium carbonation. Has a wet finish.

O - It's a slightly above average double IPA, but doesn't meet the high expectations I set for Westbrook.

This beer pours a slightly hazy golden orange color with a 2 finger frothy off white head. Retention is fantastic and there is tons of webbed lacing. Smell is pine, citrus and floral hops with some sweet malt as well. Taste is the same, well balanced. Feel is medium and resinous. Overall a good IIPA. Well balanced, not getting the pine bomb that other reviewers have mentioned at all and this bottle is 8 days old.

This beer is true to the fact that it is a DIPA version of Westbrook's IPA, which is a great beer (pretty similar Two Hearted). However, this beer is way too piney for me. Hops in the beer are Galaxy, Amarillo, Columbus and Chinook. I would have like to have had more Galaxy and Amarillo for more tropical/citrus and less Columbus and Chinook to back off the pine and bitterness. Modern IPAs that are heavy on pine feel dated to me. Westbrook is one of the best brewers in the southeast but I think don't they quite hit the mark with this one.

Pours nice slightly hazy golden with a finger of head.
Smell is super dank bitter pine slight orange citrus.
Taste is insanely pine/vegetal type bitter. Some very light hints of citrus. Can't really see past the bitter. Palate does adjust a bit tho.
Decent DIPA too one sided bitter IMO but still very enjoyable.

Good looking golden color with a large amount of head and lacing. Smells of bitter hops and bitter pine, mild sweetness. Taste is very bitter up front with a piney flavor that turns into a citrus hop taste; little bit of grassy, earthy flavor. Smooth, lightly carbonated. This is a good beer, but IMO not better than Big DIPA (which it replaced)

Got one of the few bottles sent to Alabama. As a self-described hop head I was expecting a bottle of delicioushness and instead opened the top on an absolute drain pour. Far too much bitterness to be enjoyable. It was almost sour tasting up front (which I enjoy in the proper context) and I really couldn't bring myself to finish more than half a pint or so. Disappointed.

Poured from 22 oz bomber dated 3/7/2016 into snifter.

A: clear honey yellow with 2 finger white head with lasting retention and leaving some heavy lacing.

S: Grapefruit, tangerine, and passion fruit combined with piney and floral hops.

T: Mix of citrus with grapefruit and tangerine, and a healthy dose of piney hops. Just the slightest hint of honey sweetness.

M: Medium body and average carbonation. Finish is dry with lingering hop bitterness.

O: Excellent DIPA that hits on several of the qualities I enjoy.
