Slappy stark black with a thin dark mocha fizz settling to a surprisingly persistent creamy collar.

Right off the bat the aroma is very chocolatey, much more rich and luscious than I remember the base being. There's so much brownie batter I can't stand it, because I know what kind of heat this is about to deliver on the palate. There's a really delectable, waxy, deep and rich nutty oak on the nose that delightfully combines with that ultra smooth dark chocolate character, as well as a hint of coffee. It is totally deceiving of what this beer is supposed to be, but so good I can forgive it. Cinnamon and bright chili pepper bloom as it warms.

Ultra deep and luscious dark chocolate continues on the palate, but a biting kick of habanero quickly comes in after. The pepper is surprisingly short-lived compared to the base, parting the way to a very unique accent of raisin and other dark fruits with charred oak, nougat and walnut. Heat pops back in on the swallow with a substantial sting that is thankfully fleeting. All of this happens in such quick succession I can't help but be impressed more and more with each sip.

The body is moderate and surprisingly fluffy with a soft carbonation leading into stinging, semi-dry finish.

I like this significantly better than BAA, and I'm not even mildly a Westbrook or Mexican Cake fanboy. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Sampled on 1-13-18. Pours pitch and oily black. Slight heat and touch of cinnamon on the nose. When consumed, the barrel notes make a good first impression, with a subtle cinnamon, and a pleasant heat on the back end. I really enjoyed this beer.

I found this far less delicious than previous years. Their was almost no spice to the bottle, nothing mexican about it. All i tasted was a huge chocolate presence with minimal bourbon character. Real let down

Pours dark with a fizzy short lived dark khaki head. Chili pepper and cinnamon on the nose. Barrel is subtle to start but grows as it warms. Great pepper flavor. Whiskey, caramel, and cinnamon as complements. Roasted malt and dark chocolate. Smooth body with medium carbonation. Nice heat that doesn't cover up the other aspects. Creamy. Fantastic beer. Well balanced, bold flavors, and good heat.

Undoubtedly Abraxas characteristics, with perhaps a lighter sprinkle of cinnamon and better BA character. If you're looking for more balance, perhaps BA Mex Cake beats out Abraxas. If you're looking for more cinnamon, Abraxas is the winner. Great nose, good balance, dark pour that drinks oh so good.

thanks to kevin for this one!

22 poured into a fw teku

looks great! all black with a small mocha head

bourbon cinnamon toast crunch! cinnamon come thru the most. excited to have at it

bourbon cinnamon toast crunch! along with chocolate, pepper heat than a sweet finish. second pour from the bottle is even better! as it warms vanilla comes through, pepper heat continues and cinnamon most of all. layers of flavor for sure.

mouthfeel is medium thick, slick but great lingering flavor, i don't get much booze maybe due to gong it a bit

overall this is fantastic! the base is pretty darn delicious and with the ba treatment it's fantastic! i had the first 3 ba beers thanks to easy reader oh so long ago so it's nice to revisit
kevin thank you very much

650 mL bottle. Black body with a medium khaki head. Smells of cinnamon, vanilla, bourbon, some chocolate. Tastes of cinnamon, peppers, bourbon, oak. Chocolate and roast. Spicy finish with a lingering bourbon and oak flavor. Medium heavy, but not too sweet or sluggish. A little boozy, but otherwise absolutely delicious.

Appearance: Pours espresso colored with a modest tan head; leggy, with spots of lacing left behind

Smell: Chocolate, Bourbon cinnamon and chili tones

Taste: Chocolate, cinnamon and vanilla forward, with chili and Bourbon tones building; all the flavors blend together in the finish

Mouthfeel: Full bodied with low to moderate carbonation

Overall: Incredible complexity here; the Willett barrels are magic

650ml bottle. Served in a snifter glass. Pours a dark brownish black body, one finger offwhite head, short retention, a medium collar and a bit of lacing. Smell made me think of tequila; it's got a nice spiciness to it that makes me think of rye; even though Willett is bourbon. Odd enough, but it's got that distinctness to it. Cinnamon and peppers, a bit of milk chocolate. Flavour brings more of the cinnamon, milk chocolate and spicy pepper to it, the bourbon is there but doesn't seem to mesh as well as it should. A bit of dark chocolate bitterness and oak. Touch of light smoke as well. Mouthfeel is medium-fuller bodied, on the thicker end compared to tequila and red wine from 2016; finishes with a light spicy flourish.

Tan head, black color.

This is spot on right now. Perfect bourbon notes, straight fudge, cinnamon, spicy peppers, vanilla, cocoa, and oak.

Full bodied. Great barrel flavor. Nice about of heat and peppers.

L: Intense mocha and onyx hues with a thin sandy head
S: Dark chocolate, bourbon, and a bit of spice and cinnamon
T: Intensely complex flavor profile - cocoa, vanilla beans, cinnamon, and a bit of heat/spice from the barrel aging and chilies
F: Much thicker and full-bodied than regular Mexican Cake
O: Standout beer from Westbrook - I really like the base beer, but the barrel aging provides an added layer of complexity. Very well done.
