22 oz bottle 11/30/16. Pitch black pour into a tulip glass, dark tan head of one finger that lightens up to a light tan as it moves to a thin lace. The aroma is chocolate, cocoa, vanilla and roasted nuts. The taste is right in line, with a hint of alcohol heat. Carbonation low, with a silky creamy feel. A good slow dessert sipper.

Khaki thick head quickly dissipating. Nice aromas of vanilla, chocolate, and a faint earthy nuttiness. The vanilla brings a hint of bourbon that is quickly overwashed by rich perfectly balanced dark chocolate and a wondeful but subtle hazelnut accent. The 10% ABV is well disguised here. Wonderful offering beginning to end.

On tap at the Pour Taproom in Greenville, SC.

Living up to the appearance (near black) this is a rich and flavorful ale. As per the description, this imperial stout has plenty of chocolate flavor from the cocoa nibs, and a moderate impact of the vanilla beans. The roasted hazelnuts are far more subtle. Full, smooth mouthfeel with minimal heat for 10% ABV even though the high ABV is obvious in the nose.

Overall: excellent.

Phenomenal looking stout! Dark black body, topped with a exceptionally dark brown head. Great head production and strong retention, leaving behind wide fields of lacing.

Nose is slightly restrained, featuring roasted barley up front, and lighter notes of vanilla and chocolate behind. Caramel, brown sugar, and toffee fill out the remainder of the stout profile.

The adjuncts are slightly more prominent on the palate, but not significantly. A touch of vanilla and hazelnut up front, but then the huge roasty notes come screaming through, leaving a ton of ash and char on the middle third. The back end features more chocolate and vanilla. It's almost a tale of two beers: a sweet, adjunct-based dessert stout on the ends, and a super roasty RIS in the middle. Finishes with a kiss of brown sugar.

A touch hot on the back end. Creamy and near chewy.

22oz. bomber into a Surly teku. Shared with schen9303.

Nose rings some alarm bells. There's some nuttiness but its weirdly tart. Not infected... just lightly tart. Chocolate is detectable but its not rich and robust, more like powdery and lactic. Some iced coffee in this one also complemented by roast and smoke. Beer opens again, lightly tart. Hazelnut is present but there's a shell and ashiness present instead of the complementary chocolate flavor. A light booziness in the middle with hints of lactose, chocolate and ethanol at the finish. Kind of disappointing. Body is way too thin with more than desirable carbonation. Goes down a touch prickly.

There's something about this beer that's just off. It starts from the nose and never really pulls itself together. Disappointing.

On tap. Black color, dark brown head. Aroma has dark malts and chocolate and some cacao notes. Taste has some acidic cacao and dark fruits, light caramel and a bitter coffee finish. Medium body and carbonation.

L -- Pours black with a nice mocha head full of small bubbles.

S -- Roasty, sweet vanilla notes, with chocolate notes as well.

T -- Follows closely along aroma, with slightly more malty sweetness to it. I think the hazelnut and vanilla show here, but not in an excessive way. There's a nice milk-chocolate flavor to it, with a good enough amount of bitter to not be overly sweet.

F -- Nicely full, but with a fairly good carbonation, which I like.

O -- I really like this. It's a nice step away from the bourbon trend, which I enjoy, but it's nice to have variety. This is very tasty, and worth the purchase.

650 mL bottle. Pours black with a big mocha head. Smells of chocolate and hazelnut. Something else there I can’t pinpoint. Tastes very sweet. Chocolate. Strong hazelnut. It’s a little astringent. Very sweet. Medium heavy.

22oz bottle poured into a goblet
Bottled 12/2/16

A- pours a jet black color with a creamy dark tan head that has great retention

S- roasted malt and dark chocolate up front, aroma is nutty but almost has an artificial note to it, vanilla and cocoa sweetness

T- hazelnut hits immediately up front, although subtle, quickly followed by notes of dark chocolate, fig & date. Mid-palate adds vanilla sweetness with just a hint of roast, the finish gives more light hazelnut, chocolate and dark fruit

M- medium-thick body with moderate carbonation leads to a creamy mouthfeel that finishes velvety smooth

O- pretty good overall, but the adjuncts didn't stand out much from the base beer

This is described as a chocolate hazelnut stout with vanilla beans. Only problem, there is no hazelnut. Just chocolate and a bit of vanilla. Disappointing
