Tan head. Black color.

The scotch takes over this beer. I like the smokiness and was hoping it would complement the cinnamon and peppers but it just dominates. Lots of chocolate, cocoa, and fudge, hints of the adjuncts. A bit of heat shows in the finish.

22oz bottle poured into a tulip

A- pours a deep black color with a one-finger dark khaki head that reduces to a ring around the edge

S- huge green peppery note on the nose, more-so than typical for Mexican Cake, followed by cinnamon, cocoa and vanilla. Not much barrel aroma, as expected with a Highland single malt

T- earthy coffee and cocoa up front, followed by cinnamon. Mid-palate gives plenty of pepper heat making it's way through, along with some sweet vanilla. The finish gives a very subtle honey, floral and woody notes, I presume from the barrel. The linger gives more coffee, cinnamon and plenty of pepper heat

M- medium body with low carbonation leads to a slightly foamy mouthful that continues into a warming finish

O- lighter barrel notes as subtle sweetness to the base beer

Poured from a 22oz bomber into a Westbrook tulip glass.

Pours a deep black, inky body with a deep brown head that reduces to leave a good ring of retention.

Aromas of peaty scotch are apparent the second you open it - you can tell the scotch barrels will play a big part of this Beer very early on. Other aromas include vanilla, cocoa, sweet caramel, and a bit of booze.

On the tongue is lightly sweet chocolate, Peaty Moss, a bit smokey, more peat, roasty bittersweet chocolate, a tad bit of vanilla, finishing with roasty coffee that sticks on the tongue. Peated scotch aftertaste. Body is moderately thick with low carbonation.

If you like peated scotch, you’ll love this beer. If not you’ll probably hate it. The adjuncts maybe got taken over a bit by the mossy flavor, the barrels worked.
