poured from a 16oz can into a new glarus dimpled mug. pours dark brown but appearing the glass shiny black with three fingers of dark khaki colored foam head. coffee, pine, pumpernickel and light caramel on the nose and taste. the spice from the saaz hops hits on the taste more so than the nose. so less coffee and more spicy, herbal hops on the taste. medium-full mouthfeel. pretty good dark lager. nice drinkability. perfect accomplishment to christmas lights and decorations.

Black opaque body with brown edging, tan foam head, mild lacing. Smell and taste share so much: roasted malt, slight chicory, dark yeast, cocoa, chestnut, dried dark fruit, and toast. The taste has an odd hint of bubblegum in finish, slightly distracting. Light and frothy but smooth and almost earthy spiced. Nice work for early winter especially

16 oz. can. Deep brown, almost black, nice khaki head. Smells of spicy hops and light roasted malt. Tastes of roasted malt and a little caramel, turning to bread and spicy hops in the back end. Finishes with nutty flavor. Medium body. Not exactly cold outside, but this would be good in any weather.

Dark brown/bronze and copper hues, mild and fluffy head and lacing. Toasty malt, notes of bread and chocolate and a slight bit of lemon on the nose and smell. Light to medium bodied, clean, boozier than expected. Tasty,

Thanks to mbgreg for this one.
A very nice take on the style.
Nose and flavor both carry a really nice balance between the sweet and the roast, perhaps a bit stronger on the roast than is typical of the style but I found it brings a nice depth.

Westbrook has some of the most creative beer names in the game. It is cold outside, I was on @Tavour, and obviously had to grab this release. The beer is actually perfect for cold weather. It is roasty but not bitter and is actually a dark lager (most dark lagers go too far on the roast spectrum). It has the same feel and experience as a lager but more toasted. A beer perfect for sitting in a tavern on a cold day for hours by a fireplace. Knock back a couple of these and you are living the good winter life.

16oz can with no date visible. Opened on 1-20-22.
Impressive 3 finger tan head with excellent retention. Fresh, clingy lace. Dark brown body, black at the core with some ruby edges. Roasty, nutty malt aroma with a grassy hop backing. Rich, malty flavor with a baking chocolate/cocoa powder note. Medium body and carbonation with a bit of a chalky mouthfeel - definitely has some texture in a long, malt driven but ultimately dry finish. I expected to like this one but it's even better than anticipated. Outstanding.

Sampling a cool 16 oz can poured into my .5L dimple mug.
the beer pours a cola brown color with minimal amounts of light passing through on the edges of the glass. A soft fluffy beige head of 1 cm foams up and fades to a sturdy surface covering that sticks around throughout my tasting.
the aroma on this beer is appealing, I get some mild dark chocolate notes, a bit of roasted grain and hints of dark bread too. I dont get much of a hop character, the label says spicy hops from Saaz....maybe I get a little spicy note sort of herbal tea buried. The malt is dominant on the nose.
First sip reveals a medium body with crisp and smooth texture. The carbonation is mild and slightly tingly. this beer drinks easy for physical traits.
Flavor is similar to the nose mild dark chocolate, but lots of roasted malt and almost some char to be honest. I do get again a bit of a dark hearty bready note. I also do get a little bit of a pumpernickel spicy rye note here. I guess it is from hops, as I dont see mention of rye in the grain bill. No hint of ABV and my mug is empty awful quickly!
Very nice dark lager with good flavor profile and easy drinking character!

My experience with dark lagers hasn't been too pleasant, and I'm glad to report this one is much different. Very refreshing, light, yet still enough backbone and complexity to warrant the "cold outside" title.

Look: Darkest brown body. It's almost inky black, but when held up to the light, you see the brownish, violet-ish hue. Khaki head. Nice lacing and head retained throughout drinking.

Smell: Pumpernickel, fresh baked wheat bread. Floral hops--like dried pressed flowers.

Taste: Darker roasty notes. Nice floral hops to cut through--definitely not a sweet beer despite the heavy malt profile. Refreshing, crisp finish.

Feel: The crisp finish is what makes this beer for me. Really ties it all together, very drinkable.

Overall: Didn't think this is what I'd want to drink when the temps drop, but it's pretty perfect for that scenario.
