This beer, inspired by the flavors of Southeast Asian cuisine, is a twist on the classic Belgian witbier style. Instead of the traditional coriander and orange peel spicing regimen, we add fresh lemongrass, ginger root, and a dash of Sorachi Ace hops. The result is a wonderfully refreshing ale with notes of lemon candy, citrus fruit, and a slight spiciness from the ginger. Best served at 45˚F in a tulip or wine glass.

12oz can into Duvel tulip

A - cloudy yellow, small head that vanishes before I can toss the can.

S - lemon and tea. Very little wit aromas.

T - the wit base is there but it's overshadowed by the tea and lemon infusions. It's a very drinkable if somewhat light bodied brew.

M - light bodied and easy. Finishes clean

O - really suited for summer. Not a full bodied beer by any stretch but enjoyable. Perhaps not for the wit purist, but enjoyable and and fun to try.

I felt that the beer had a very smooth character, coupled with some notes of herbs and light ale. It has medium to low carbonation, and a lovely light flavor. One of the better beers i've enjoyed. I drank it from a can (like a beast) and found it incredibly easy to drink. For such a light beer I loved the wheaty tones and felt they complimented perfectly to the indian inspired herbal notes. I got flavors of ginger, lemongrass and a slight bready alcohol finish.

First and foremost, your main man is not a fan of Witbiers. That being said, I can spot quality a mile away like watching Teddy Ball Game hit balls off a tee at the age of 6. And here, we don’t have a Teddy Ball Game Beer, we have one of those random black and white pictures on baseball reference of some dude from the 1890’s that played ball for a few years, but retired to be a farmer to make more money.

Peace.

Look: Hazy pale yellow. Two fingers of thick, bubbly head with extremely long retention.

Smell: Ginger, banana, lemon peel.

Taste: Lemon peel, very mild ginger, floral hops with mild bitterness, clean finish.

Mouthfeel: Creamy, with very high carbonation.

Overall: A very refreshing and complex beer.

A: Poured from the 12oz can into a pint glass. The beer is a cloudy hay-golden color topped with a 2 finger white head that dissipates quickly.

S: Banana bread and clove as expected, along with a bit of lemon and spice. Didnt get ginger but the smell is nice and bright.

T: Ginger makes an appearance right up front, then lemon and spice. Bready midpalate with banana and bubblegum. Finish has a slightly yeasty kick with honey and clove. Very carbonated but light.

Overall a pretty easy-drinking beer that would go well with lots of different foods. The unique aspefts of the beer werent as noticeable as I expected, but the beer itself is a good representative of the style.

355 ml can, Cardinal Pub & Bar, Stavanger. ABV is 5%. Very pale yellow colour, only slightly hazy, moderate white head. Strong aroma of lemongrass / lemon and ginger, a hint of dill. Wheaty flavour with distinct notes of lemongrass and citrus, also ginger, with a hint of dill in the very moderately bitter finish. Nice and refreshing, definitely a beer I’ll have again - especially in summer.

Pours a clear light straw color, massive white foamy head that refuses to dissipate. Pleasant Esther aroma, I get banana, cloves, allspice. Flavor follows nose; ample esther flavor of banana and clove. Semi sweet, carbonation adds to a creamy texture. Overall a good Belgian wheat beer, will buy again.

First gut impression on my first can from the $10.99 USD sixer:

Soft feel on the palate. Brief impression of faint ginger. Lemongrass I wouldn't find in a blind taste test, but looking for it with the knowledge it was used, I can find it. Sorachi Ace hops here aren't as I remember them (in beers that showcase them well like Brooklyn Brewing's titular brew) but I do like its hop profile...it's not the overhopped witbier many American breweries turn out.

Highly drinkable. Would pair well with Asian food. Seems they succeeded at executing the premise well given their goals, but I'd still sooner nab Allagash White when craving a traditional witbier. Nice work from Westbrook in any case.

High B- (3.45) / WORTHY

02/21/21 can:

The Sorachi Ace hops barely register, but the lemongrass pairs nicely with the Belgian yeast, echoing the faint lemon peel and complementing the clove, biscuit, and spice. Rustic wheat gives this its backbone, but I might think I find rye if I tried this blind given the beer's spiciness.

Ginger is barely there, which I think is a good thing...too much could easily overpower it.

Not quite dry enough for my taste, but it's a rather well brewed witbier with an accomplished Asian twist. I'd definitely pick Allagash White over this any day of the week, but I'd certainly say it's one of the better American attempts at the style.
