Style: Witbier

Alcohol by volume (ABV): 5.00%

Availability: Year-round

Notes / Commercial Description:
This beer, inspired by the flavors of Southeast Asian cuisine, is a twist on the classic Belgian witbier style. Instead of the traditional coriander and orange peel spicing regimen, we add fresh lemongrass, ginger root, and a dash of Sorachi Ace hops. The result is a wonderfully refreshing ale with notes of lemon candy, citrus fruit, and a slight spiciness from the ginger. Best served at 45˚F in a tulip or wine glass.

Pour - hazy yellow to gold in color with a not too thick wispy head on top. Sort of soft and opaque in appearance with a good deal of yeasty cloudiness.

Aroma - spicy and sweet, lots of great aromas coming from the glass. Some nice citrus notes along with some hints of ginger and coriander. Very spicy, warm and inviting.

Taste - that first sip is all I need to know that this is a very well put together witbier. Lots of those traditional flavors are present such as the coriander and the citrus notes but the ginger and the lemongrass really bring this beer to another level. Very spicy and refreshing and I can't really say enough about what the addition of ginger does for a beer like this.

Overall - one of the best witbiers I've ever had. Absolutely great beer with such well measured spice flavor and a nice crisp finish. Altogether fantastic. Very well done and cheers to everyone at Westbrook Brewing Company.

Poured into a Funky Buddha Brewery snifter. Bottom of can says 09/08/14.

A- Pours a medium golden color with a 1/2 inch white head that retains well before becoming a thick ring around the edge of the glass and a mostly full sheet of surface foam. Thick sheet of lacing leaves a thick ring behind.

S- Semi-rich wheat/yeast aroma with some underlying spices.

T- Smooth, slightly sweet wheat flavor with the spices playing off that and the yeast which makes for a zesty finish. A bit earthy and incredibly smooth.

M- A tad dry with medium carbonation and a lightish body.

O- I could probably crush a whole sixer of this stuff and still want more. Extremely drinkable and very flavorful. One of my new top 5 American-made witbiers. So surprised this doesn't have a higher score.

Poured a slightly opaque golden color with decent, fluffy white head, limited retention and limited lacing. The aroma is strong. The lemon hits you first, banana, bread, and a spice that I am not accustomed to, must be the ginger, outstanding! Taste is similar to the aroma, lemon, bread, less banana and ginger than aroma, and now there seems to be some clove. Nicely carbonated, full mouth feel, kinda juicy up front but finished more dry with something, seems like the spice lingering on the back of the tongue. Overall, a pretty interesting and quality brew.

Very light hazy color poured in a glass. Mouthfeel is like a typical pale ale/ipa. At first sip you get a very crisp refreshing hop flavor with minimal bitterness. A little citrusy with a perfect blend of spices. Very good and would buy again In a heartbeat.

I really liked this. I was in Charleston during the hot, hot southern summer and this was perfect. The Ginger and lemongrass were a surprise. Drinks easy for a perfect beer after you cut the grass. I grabbed a case as I left Charleston.

Filled at CBX in Charleston, SC. Thanks as always, guys!

A - Pours a hazy light straw with a creamy white head. Retention is very nice, as are the sheets of lacing left on the glass.
S - Bubblegum and bananas, spicy clove and a whole lotta lemon. Very crisp and clean aromas, love the use of Sorachi!
T - Lightly toasted biscuit malt, bananas, bubblegum and more fresh-squeezed lemon juice. Flavors are slightly subdued, but very enjoyable.
M - Smooth and creamy with a medium-light body and moderate carbonation.
D - Really good drinkability, the girlfriend and I had no problem killing the growler. I think with a couple of tweaks this could be a new favorite, I'd love to see the ginger and lemongrass ramped up to play a more prominent role, like the basil in the Bruery's Trade Winds Tripel. Still, very nice first offering.

Poured from a 12 OZ can into a tulip glass at the World of Beer in Columbia, SC. The appearance is a mildly murky gold color with a small white head. The aroma is lemongrass, citrus and some ginger. The taste is ginger, wheat and some citra hops.

Hazy lemon and honey mix with 1/2 finger of fizzy white head. No retention and very little lace.

Spice and ginger are all over the nose. A nice mix. Straw, lemon, and sweet tea round things out. Well done.

Ginger really kicks up the flavor. Fairly dry hit, but gets bittersweet in the finish with crystal ginger, lemon zest, and sweet tea.

Feel is about right. Thicker than expected but stands up well to the taste.

This would do very well on a hot summer day in the Holy City of Charleston.

Enjoyed a couple glasses of this beer at dinner in Charleston. Really nice beer. Perfect summer session beverage.

Each pint came with a finger plus of bright white whipped egg white head. Fairly decent retention. The beer is a light hazy straw color with a dull tone to it. Very nice rings of lacing. Good looking beer. Spot on for style.

Aroma was fantastic. Bright and fresh. Pale grains, definitely the lemongrass pops, a touch of yeast and spice. I don’t specifically smell the ginger, but there are lots of spice notes.

Very nice bright, lively flavor. Lemongrass and other citrus notes, a touch of vanilla, banana and lots of spice notes. The wheat notes produce a nice light bready aftertaste

Very light and delicate body. Very refreshing. A creamy sense while remaining delicate.

Really enjoyed this beer. Excellent representation of the style and a perfect match for food. Seek this beer out when visiting Charleston in the summer.

Great looking brew!. Big white head that fades slowly to a light, persistent covering. It leaves tons of lacing, more than is typical for the style. The beer itself is a cloudy golden fluid

Nose is wheat malt with lemon and ginger.

Taste is superb. The wheat malt is really well developed and flows into the lemongrass beautifully. The ginger is a great counter the the traditional curaçao pepper. It offers a spiciness that is crisp and and enhances the complexity. Bitterness is mild but a bit more than is typical. No matter, the tightness and character of it make for a clean dry finish. Somewhat tea like and earthy with a peppery spiciness from the ginger.

Feel crisp with a medium weight and high drinkability. Creamy and smooth in the mouth. Refreshing and thirst quenching and highly sessionable.

A really innovative take on the style. I could quaff this all day every day during the warmer months. Yum
