Style: Witbier

Alcohol by volume (ABV): 5.00%

Availability: Year-round

Notes / Commercial Description:
This beer, inspired by the flavors of Southeast Asian cuisine, is a twist on the classic Belgian witbier style. Instead of the traditional coriander and orange peel spicing regimen, we add fresh lemongrass, ginger root, and a dash of Sorachi Ace hops. The result is a wonderfully refreshing ale with notes of lemon candy, citrus fruit, and a slight spiciness from the ginger. Best served at 45˚F in a tulip or wine glass.

Refreshing! Great idea to add the lemongrass and ginger to a wit. I am not a big fan of the standard orange peel/clove/coriander stuff. This was a nice twist that made the beer interesting while maintaining drinkability.

look was a little cloudier than expected. smells like a Belgian Wit. lemongrass is present, ginger is understated, the Sorachi Hops give it a nice finish. Mouthfeel was a bit more than a standard Wit. I would love to have this with roast duck or something sweet and sour.

Had on tap at Amen in Charleston, SC. This was a strange witbier, in which the flavors that were advertised did not come through.

Poured from a 12 oz. can, enjoyed from a brandy stemmed glass

A - The body pours a hazy light yellow. Considerable haze (granted, I did shake up the can before the end of the pour to get all that flavorful yeast in there!). While the head after the pour has some fizz to it, it quickly subsides to a thin and white rim of foam; no lacing to speak of.

S - Exotic and spicy - notes if clove, white pepper, ginger, lemon, apple, and cardamom.

T - At first, this beer tastes like any decent Belgian wit, with clove and cardamom spiciness paired with banana and lemon esters. Then, a earthy, sharp taste from the ginger and lemongrass coats the tongue. The finish is creamy and biscuity, and skillfully combines sweet, spice, and dry flavors that linger on the palate.

M - Creamy with a fairly mild and luxurious carbonation.

O - While not the premier wit bier out there, Westbrook adds some unique flavors to make it worth a six pack. Great for summer porch lounging or pairing with sushi or Thai.
