Style: Witbier

Alcohol by volume (ABV): 5.00%

Availability: Year-round

Notes / Commercial Description:
This beer, inspired by the flavors of Southeast Asian cuisine, is a twist on the classic Belgian witbier style. Instead of the traditional coriander and orange peel spicing regimen, we add fresh lemongrass, ginger root, and a dash of Sorachi Ace hops. The result is a wonderfully refreshing ale with notes of lemon candy, citrus fruit, and a slight spiciness from the ginger. Best served at 45˚F in a tulip or wine glass.

Interesting take on a witbier. The traditional citrusy flavors are still there, albeit somewhat muted by the lemongrass and ginger. A smooth drinker, with pleasant carbonation, clean flavors, and a nice ginger zing on the back end. Like most of Westbrook's beers, this one is quite good.

First had poured from 12-oz. can into nonic pint. White Thai is filtered contrary to style, but the southeast Asian spices substituted for the traditional coriander and orange peel work very well.

12 ounce can into pint glass, canned on 3/3/2016. Pours fairly hazy pale golden yellow color with a 1-2 finger fairly dense and fluffy white head with good retention, that reduces to a small cap that lingers. Light spotty soapy lacing clings on the glass, with a good amount of streaming carbonation retaining the cap. Aromas of big lemon, orange, ginger, pear, apple, light banana, pepper, clove, wheat, biscuit, light honey, herbal, floral, grass, and yeast earthiness. Damn nice aromas with great balance and complexity of fruity/earthy yeast, spices, and pale malt notes; with great strength. Taste of big lemon, orange, ginger, pear, apple, light banana, pepper, clove, wheat, biscuit, light honey, herbal, floral, grass, and yeast earthiness. Light herbal bitterness and yeast spiciness on the finish; with lingering notes of lemon, orange, ginger, pear, apple, light banana, pepper, clove, wheat, biscuit, light honey, herbal, floral, grass, and yeast earthiness on the finish for a good bit. Damn nice complexity, robustness, and balance of fruity/earthy yeast, spices, and pale malt flavors; with a great malt/bitter/spiciness balance and zero cloying flavors after the finish. Medium carbonation and body; with a very smooth, moderately creamy/bready, and slightly sticky mouthfeel that is nice. Zero alcohol warming as expected of 5%. Overall this is a great witbier. All around great complexity, robustness, and balance of fruity/earthy yeast, spices, and pale malt flavors; very smooth and refreshing to drink. A very enjoyable offering.

Pours a hazy wheat color. Slight spicy taste with a highly carbonated mouthfeel. Refreshing but not as wheat flavored as some of the German Hefeweizens. Very good American version of a German classic.

Thanks to rudzud, 9/8/15

Big foamy fluffy messy head and messy lacing, hazy straw color.

Nose big yeasty doughy, bread dough, wheat, toasty, little ginger and floral spices, sweet mild bitter orange peel, lemongrass perhaps or mild lemony and grassy.

Taste brings creamy wheat, toasted grainy raw bread dough, stone orange zest little sweet, mild floral spices, lemongrass, spicy floral hops, little earthy, finish weird spicy bitter aftertaste, little sticky.

Mouth is med to lighter bod, bright carb.

Overall not bad, a bit too old i think, lost a bit of pizzazz but still pretty decent, wish I had it earlier.

Shared with JLindros.

A -Poured into a Kate the Great tulip a nice clear golden hue with a huge white head that fades to leave thin wisps.

S - Aromas of nice citrus and wheat, good light coriander, solid lemon grass, nice ginger too.

T - Taste is similar to the nose, nice wheat and lemons, the ginger has faded a bunch along with the lemongrass. There is a fair amount of spicy bitterness on the finish.

M - Mouthfeel is lightly carbonated, nice fluffy finish.

O - Overall this is a solid beer, wish I had it fresh!
