Style: American IPA

Alcohol by volume (ABV): 6.80%

Availability: Year-round

Notes / Commercial Description:
A base of pale, Munich, and Carapils malts is just enough to contain the massive hop flavor and aroma packed into this highly drinkable IPA. A blend of four American hop varieties is added four times in the kettle and twice in the fermentor for a complex and layered hop experience. Best served at 45-50˚F in a tulip or English style pint glass.

Canned 1-27-15.

hops: C hops according to clones on the net.

Cloudy, cross between orange, gold, and amber. Beautiful. However, Medicore head and lacing.

Nose is underwhelming, suggests way too sweet an IPA with muted hops.

First half of palate is the same, but second half gets way more complex and interesting, hops start to come through and finish is very good.

Feel is nice, medium big.

Very interesting beer. Has aspects that I hate--a cloyingly sweet note from nose to mid-palate--and that I love--a complex malt-hops mixture with a memorable finish. Reminiscent of NODA hop drop n roll, but better, really. Admire the fact that brewmaster brought out two powerful characteristics--the sweet note and the more bitter finish--but it's not really my thang.

3/3/15 canned on date.

Grassy, resiny, lightly dank cannabis aroma, with an accompanying grapefruit and mango character. Toasted malt underlies, lightly nutty.

Flavor reveals big grassy notes throughout. The malt backbone is toasted and fairly sweet, providing contrast to the moderately bitter finish. Fruit character is more muted, and earthy and herbal hops seem to be more of the focus. The finish is a touch more bitter than I prefer, and I wish the fruity hop character were more pronounced.

Pours hazy orange with a small creamy white head, receding slowly and leaving a really nice lacing.
Smells divine, with rich strong pine (tons!), pomelo, kumquat, some papaya, faint mango, light floral notes. Hints of pistachio and a nice caramel maltiness that has a bit of toast in there, too. But wow, so much pine!
The taste is much more balanced, with the fruitiness taking center stage, lots of blood orange, peach, mango, maracuja, faint khaki fruit, with a way more dense caramel backbone. Some light sweet floral notes, a tiny bit of honey. Pine shows up in the end, with a light toast (i get a hint of pine nut, actually) and some spicy, leafy fresh hop, nice and bitter. A hint of that sticky-icky dank, too, but not the main thing.
Aftertaste has rich hop resin, pine, lots of grapefruit peel and a mild sweetness lingering. Bitterness is generous, but doesn't cling, leaving room for that nice fruity flavors. Medium body, medium carbonation, almost smooth.
A huge IPA, with a great bunch of hops, so clear and tasty. So perfectly tweaked. I'm sad i only have one can.

A little more malt than hop. Good balance. I will drink more when in SC.
