22oz glass poured into a tulip at the brewery.

It looks black as oil. Minimal head/lacing.
Smells of coffee, slight cinnamon and peppers. Coffee is very overpowering on the nose.
Having had the regular, I would say the coffee actually brings out the spice a little bit more. Overall, a delicious beer full of coffee, cinnamon, chocolate, and pepper.

As with the other variants, very much Mexican Cake, but with a medium coffee flavor. The coffee bitterness and roast offers another layer that balances the chocolate, spices, and bitterness of the beer.

A fine addition to the beer, but nothing that changes the beer way too much.

So lucky to get one bottled 5/27/16, total dumb luck while looking for their IPA at the brewery. Pitch black with dark reddish/brown head. Smell is vanilla, cinnamon, coffee and a slight hint of the pepper. Taste is incredible, no clue this is 10.5% ABV without reading the bottle. You get chocolate, vanilla, and a slight burn of the habanero at the end, but nothing uncomfortable at all. Full feel. Just an incredible stout, lucky to have walked in on release day.

The beer pours pitch black with a brown head. The coffee is apparent but not overpowering allowing the cocoa and cinnamon to come through. It's Mexican Cake with coffee in it. The pepper finish is much more subdued than the base beer. Good stuff.

L: Robust mahogany and rich black hues complemented by a frothy tan head reminiscent of latte foam
S: Distinct cinnamon, peppers, milk chocolate and dark roast coffee - one of the best smelling stouts I've had
T: Fully lives up to its billing of cinnamon, cocoa nibs, habanero chilis, coffee beans and a hint of vanilla
F: Just on the thin side of medium with a moderate amount of carbonation
O: Beautifully executed coffee stout all around. The base Mexican Cake stout is a work of art, but this variant adds a welcomed dose of coffee and vanilla that subdues a bit of the heat and adds a layer of complexity to a very rich flavor base. Thoroughly enjoyable and has one of the best noses of any stout I've had in recent memory.
