Beautiful color, but, as the other review pointed out, some of the bottles are ridiculously over-carbonated. I mean to the point of having 2/3's of your glass be foam even if you poured it very slowly. This does take away from the takes as the fizziness really dulls the bright citrus tones and leaves mostly the bitterness of the hops. The review below applies to the bottle I had that was not overcarbonated

A: Beautiful red, hazy amber color with a tan creamy head.

S: Very bright citrus with lots of greenness from the hops

T: Oranges and greenness from the hops meld somewhat smoothly into a nicely hoppy finish with some spice from the rye

M: More carbonated than I would like, sharp

O: Solid offering from westbrook, some of the problems with the beer are unusual for their stuff IMO, but the taste and smell are very good.

Served from tap into a shaker. Poured yellow-orange with a white half finger head that subsided to a minimal amount quickly. Maintained decent lacing throughout the glass. The aroma was comprised of sweet malt, floral, floral hop, citrus, and fruit. The flavor was of sweet malt, spice, earth, earth hop, citrus, and citrus hop. It had a light feel on the palate with medium-high carbonation. Overall this was a good brew. I had this in the bottle awhile back and saw it on tap and had to jump on it. I was not disappointed. Surprisingly the rye spiciness did not come across on the aroma but there was a nice floral note in its place. The flavor however definitely picked up where the aroma left off and hit you with the spiciness of the rye mixed in with a nice touch of citurs and earthiness. A really well done brew from Westbrook. Can't wait to see what other single hop brews they have in the future.

A: Poured from a 32 oz. growler to a pint glass. Had a yellow color and a hazy texture. There was an inch of foamy, fairly long-lasting head. Good lacing.

S: A sweet aroma - mostly light fruit - and some hops and rye as well.

T: Tasted of hops (not an overwhelming amount), citrus (orange, lemon), some malt, and the rye in the finish. A pretty well-balanced, sweet flavor.

M: A good amount of carbonation with a dry, smooth finish. Light-bodied.

O: An easy drinking beer that's a well made brew. Very drinkable.

Thanks to dogdoc for this one! Reviewed from notes. Poured from bomber into pint glass.

A: This one pours a hazy dark gold with a huge white head that lasts. Some visible carbonation.

S: Flowery hops and caramel, bready malts. It's a nice hop presence but doesn't really punch.

T: Flowery and bit of pine hops, some peppery and spicy notes, a little earthy, and then sweet malts.

M: Nice weight to mouthfeel and a great amount of carbonation. Somewhat dry finish. Alcohol well-hidden.

O: Good, very interesting & different. Single hop brews are generally a good learning experience for the palate but not always a great beer. This isn't an everyday drinker perhaps, but I would have it again.

I think that Westbrook has really stepped up their game from when they first started, and I'm glad that they have. It really helps strengthen the fairly young and still growing, Charleston beer scene.

I'm not really versed in Rye Pale Ales, but I thought this was a good offering. When first poured, it had a nice thick, creamy head, that disappeared after a few minutes, leaving a scant lacing behind. Color was a hazy straw, almost hefe-like. The smell was very citrusy, oranges, lemons, some lime, but also had a slight rye bread smell as well. The taste was more of a good balance, between the citrusy hops and the rye, neither was too overbearing. Overall another solid offering from Westbrook.

Received this as an extra from Thagr81us; thanks Calton. 22 oz. bottle from 04/05/12, poured into my Bell's tulip.

a - Pours a hazy bright orange color with two fingers plus of fluffy white head and moderate carbonation evident. Head lasts for several minutes and leaves nice lacing on the glass.

s - Smells of citrus hops, oranges, fruity malts, light rye, pale malts, and bready malts. Nice orange and rye mix, I like the nose quite a bit.

t - Tastes of fruity malts, caramel malts, bready malts, light citrus, and rye. More rye then the nose but less citrus and orange. A step down for me.

m - Medium body and moderate carbonation. Smooth and pretty easy to drink.

o - Overall a pretty nice rye ber. As it warmed up more rye came out in the taste, but I thought the nose was much better with a bunch of citrus hops and oranges. Worth checking out, especially if you like rye beers.
