This is our interpretation of Gose (pronounced “Gose-uh”), a traditional German-style sour wheat beer brewed with coriander and salt. Once nearly extinct, this very refreshing style is making a comeback.

Very small head, fizzy, quickly fading. No lacing. Brew is a murky orange/yellow.

Tangy and sour aroma; citrus meets sour milk meets hay. If that sounds unpleasant, it's misleading; it's a very inviting aroma.

Flavor is an excellent match of wheat and hay, lemons and oranges, coriander and grass, and a slightly funky, slightly sour, very tart edge. Slightly milky. The salt doesn't stand out as overpowering, but it's certainly very salty for a beer.

Light and crisp feel, very active, slight sting. Very drinkable. Oily retention balanced against a slight pucker on the aftertaste. Refreshing.

The can doesn't lie; this is a delicious, light, refreshing beer. Definitely would make a fantastic summer quencher.

Poured into a narrow pint glass: color is straw gold and hazy, head presents quickly at one finger depth then dissipates to nothing, no lacing.

Smell is lactic sourness, light spice, wheat breadiness.

Taste is lactic sourness, some coriander spice, wheat, toast, bread, light saltiness, very good gose.

Mouthfeel is moderate carbonation, moderate sweetness but transitions to sourness, light bitterness and lingering sourness.

Overall a very good gose - sour, malty, light salt fullness.

Brief Review:

O: Shout out to my good friend from work for picking this up on a recent trip. Been wanting to try this for a very long time (8+ years) and just never got a chance. Gose has become very popularized in the meantime, so going to this now is wild. Very traditional here, more tart than I was expecting. Pretty smooth and drinkable still. Drinks way bigger than the 4%, which is nice. Great classic beer here, happy to see it's still appreciated.

Recommendation: It's never too late to try Westbrook Gose for the first time! Definitely a classic.

12oz can. Canning date stamped on can bottom is '09/09/22'.
Cloudy, golden amber colored body. Brief fizzy head, but surface remains very active. No lacing.
Aroma is sour fruit and spice.
Taste is sour with a fruity flavor. Has a coriander spice note. Salt is expressed as the dryness resulting in the mouth.
Medium mouth feel, with minor puckering. Very active carbonation.
Saltiness is rather minimal, and does not deposit on the lips. Solid sour and spiced beer.

Golden, slightly hazy with some head that quickly dissipates. Nose is sour with some citrus. Light mouthfeel with a good dose of sour up front followed by a decent amount of carbonation. Overall, a light very nice gose. Great on a warm day.

It is difficult to read the bottom, but it appears to say: "07/25/21 06:17 01/26/21 06:17"

Appearance: The body is a light gold color that is very hazy. It has a medium-sized white head that fizzes out pretty quickly to a short cap. No retention or lacing.

Aroma: It has a souring lemon aroma.

Taste: There is a light lemon flavor up front with a hint of tart raspberry. On the middle of the palate a light note of coriander and wheat comes through.

Mouthfeel: It has a medium tartness and no perceivable bitterness. The body is on the upper edge of light. Carbonation is good.

Overall: As a whole the beer is enjoyable and the highlight is the flavor, which has a very classic Gose character. The can states that this is a "Sour wheat ale brewed with coriander and sea salt." The coriander comes through in the flavor which is nice, and it is well balanced in strength. I could drink it again. I would recommend it. This would be a great beer to drink at a seafood boil.

No can date
Pours a light fizzy almost 1 finger head with med retention, very hazy light sunrise yellow-orange color

Nose brings nice doughy wheat, a little creamy, raw sour dough bread dough, tart ness with some yogurt lacto creamy funk, tart lemony notes, hint of coriander and spice, general yuzu-like citrus thing as well

Taste starts quite sour and tart with fair acidity up front, more creamy lacto funk, tart citrus with a little lemony note and more of that tropical-like citrus like yuzu or hand of Buddha, light coriander spice in the background and hint of salt on the back end, fair wheat but less than I expected, little doughy sour dough like, fair flemmy finish with more acidity and bit more salt

Mouth is med to lighter bod, a bit creamy, quite tart with fair acidity, med frothy carb

Overall nice gose, right up the top for an American gose as I have come to expect from Westbrook, nitpicking would have liked a bit more wheat and dough on the taste, but otherwise it's very nice, really like that crazy citrusy character as well, and REAAAAAALY happy they teach people how to pronounce it on the can, rather than perpetuate the incorrect way to pronounce, like stupid "Brian Gose Dancing"

This is the best gose (and one of my favorite beers overall). I created this BeerAdvocate account just to review.

Looks and smells like what you’d expect from a gose.

Taste is phenomenal— classic and a perfect representation of the style. Better than Anderson Valley, which is also wonderful.

Thin mouthfeel with a tart, refreshing taste that leaves you wanting more.

My only issue with this beer is that it isn’t distributed in my area. Otherwise, I’d always have it in my fridge. Absolutely perfect example of a gose.
