a really good ipa, maybe a little older now than it should be, but not way old, they just have been in the market a little while now. its good beer, but not as good as i had hoped it would be. its not all that unique i didnt think, although its obviously well made. i get a citra type hop profile form it, lemony and bright and fruity, but its not real bitter, and frankly not bitter enough to balance the sweetness, and my takeaway here is that it might be better around 7% abv, less grain making it sweet and all, and less booze getting in the way in the end. i like all the body, and i like the flavor profile of the hops, must be more than just citra, but thats kind of the lead horse i pick up in this one. fuller bodied too, which i really like, and creamy in feel with a ton of tiny bubbles making it seem a lot lighter than it is, but it doesnt warm up all that well, sort of comes apart a little bit, and the hops fade a lot. this could be a produce of it being a few months older than is optimal. overall its another solid release from westbrook, but their hoppy beer has never been what impresses me most in their lineup. fair for 8 bucks though, thats for sure.

A: The beer is slightly hazy amber orange in color and has a light amount of visible carbonation. It poured with a thin off white head that died down a bit and left a thin layer of bubbles covering the surface.
S: Light to moderate aromas of tropical fruits are present in the nose along with some hints of grapefruit.
T: The taste is similar to the smell but seems a little maltier with notes of caramel and has a light to moderate amount of bitterness.
M: In feels medium-bodied and crisp on the palate with a moderate amount of carbonation.
O: This beer is quite drinkable considering its strength because it hides its alcohol very well. There is also a good balance between the malts and hops.

A: Pours a clear medium copper in color with light amounts of visible carbonation and some orange + amber highlights. The beer has a thin quarter finger tall dense foamy light beige head that reduces to a very thin film covering the majority of the surface of the beer along with a small patch of medium thickness and some medium bubbles. Moderate amounts of lacing are observed.

S: Moderate aromas of tropical/mango and citrus/grapefruit hops with a lighter amount of sweet caramel malts.

T: Upfront there is a moderate flavor of sweet malts with some caramel sweetness. That is followed by moderate flavors of tropical/mango and citrus/grapefruit hops that contribute a light to moderate amount of lingering bitterness.

M: Medium bodied with moderate amounts of carbonation. Light amounts of dryness in the finish.

O: This is an enjoyable brew because it highlights the flavors of the hops with a great balance between the sweetness of the malts and the bitterness of the hops. Easy to drink and definitely worth picking this one up again.

From 02/27/15 notes on tap at the brewery.

Re-brewed for Brewvival. Decent taste, hoppy nose. Good beer.

650 mL bottle poured into a snifter.

Appearance - Deep orange. Clear. Medium white head. Good retention with a medium collar.

Smell - Grapefruit. Smells like simcoe. Caramel malt. Some booze.

Taste - Orange and grapefruit. Sweet citrus. Gets a little herbal and pithy in the back. Sweet doughy malts. Bitter in the back.

Mouthfeel - Medium body. A bit boozy. Medium carbonation.

Overall - Enjoyable, but I'd take Boy King over this.
