Big frothy snow white head with good retention and very nice lacing. Body is light golden, quite hazy with a lot of sediment, detracting from the overall appearance.

Big juicy aroma: grapefruit, orange, mango; slightly grassy and moderately dank; pale malt.

Easy drinking body and flavor: light biscuit and pale malt, a touch of honey, pineapple, coconut, very light and bright citrus hops, grassy and clean herbal notes. Slightly sticky sweet finish.

This could easily become a daily APA, replacing SNPA in your lineup - it's that easy to drink, and that good.

Appearance - Pours cloudy orange color with decent white head

Aroma - Hints of rye and orange peel, just a touch of grapefruit and malts.

Taste - The taste is very similar to the aroma, a mixed taste of rye and malt, orange peel and grapefruit seem to be an after though in the taste.

Feel - Medium body well carbonated slight dryness on the finish.

Overall - A really good beer, I think I prefer the Two Claw just has more flavor.

Another great beer from Westbrook. Pours a dark gold fairly clear color with lots of carbonation/bubbles. Big white head and thick bands of lacing on the glass, with good head retention. Aroma is mostly citrus hops, very pronounced. Great flavor, citrus hops and bready malt with some rye sourness. Mouthfeel is rich and crisp, good carbonation and level of bitterness. The rye sourness is a nice touch too. Westbrook makes some fine beers and this is one of them!!!!

A - Pours a very cloudy orange with a very white foamy head.
S - Aroma is a lot of citrus and grapefruit pith.
T - Flavor is another matter. Just a hint of citrus, very bready.
M - Medium mouth feel and carbonation.
O - Not a bad beer at all, very drinkable, but not one I will seek out again.

12 oz can

Pours a hazy orange golden, pillowy white head retains well at a quarter inch.

Smells of citrus, sourdough bread, hemp, rye, and cereal malts.

Tastes of citrus and sourdough bread malts with a rye accompaniment and a light spicy and fruity hop finish,

Medium to full bodied with stinging carbonation on the roof of the mouth.

Very tasty! Lots of good flavor and aroma here. Flavorful APA with good malt and hop balance, and the rye addition is subtle but welcome. Good body drinks very smooth. Feels a bit heavier than it is. Definitely worth trying.

This is quite a unique Rye IPA. Usually for me the rye is good, but never this smooth. Somehow it is balanced and smooth all the way through with a only the Rye coming out in the finish. I brought this beer home from NYC while visiting my bro. I would try to get more for sure.

33cl can. Hazy orange with a thin white head. Citrus and grapefruit, bread, spices, caramel. Medium bodied - actually thicker than most IPAs - with a low carbonation and a moderately bitter and spicy aftertaste.

On tap. Hazy golden color with off-white head. Aroma has some orange marmalade with some spicy rye bread. Taste is quite grainy with multi cereal, whole grain bread, spicy rye and some lemony hops on the finish. Medium body and carbonation. Quite interesting beer but it's a bit too grainy for my taste.

Sitting down with that beach-side clam bake calls for the perfect beer to match. Sweet, spicy, bitter and balanced, Westbrook's rye pale ale is just the beer to answer that call.

Their One Claw pale ale greets the nose with caramelized, peppery grains with citrus, herb, grass and pine in tow. Its pale, rusty goldenrod hues show a rustic austere with a frothy white crown. Toasted breads, steely caramel, an a hint of granola give the tongue a honey-like cereal surprise.

Hops rise to balance the calming malts during the course of the middle palate. As the sweetness drifts, the citrusy balance of white grapefruit, tangerine, nectarine and lemon eventually develops into an herbal sassafras tea, fresh grassiness and a sprucy bitterness. All the while, the grit and peppery bite of rye gives the taste also a rustic grain, grit and garland taste to assist the hops in balancing the crackery, bready-sweet malt.

Medium-bodied but trending lighter and drier, the hops and rye help to dry the taste. As the malt evaorates, a crisp and refreshing finish ensues- though with the rawness of rye, the beer's cleanliness isn't expected. An aftertaste of husk and peppercorn extends past resinous hops or caramelized grain and hangs up slightly in the back of the throat.

Pours very hazy yellow with a few particulates mixed in. Slight citrusy flavors with a hint of spice, rounded out with a muted hoppy kick. Excellent mouthfeel and aftertaste leaving you ready for the next swig. Great beer, definitely up to Westbrook standards!

L: Pours a mildly hazy medium-gold with a nice two-finger head. Very nice head retention and lacing.

S: Strong dry spicy rye malt notes meld with a grassy, citrusy hoppiness.

T: Lots of rye malt with a fairly sweet breadiness. Also lots of grapefruit pith, with a bit of pine and some onion hop character. Spicy semi-malty finish with a good deal of grassy bitterness.

F: Medium body with a fairly lush, creamy mouthfeel.

Thoughts: Pretty decent rye PA; no more, no less.

This is an interesting beer, and I didn't even know that the brewery existed, even though my in-laws live in Mt. Pleasant, just a few miles from Charleston. Pours hazy and golden with nice lace and head. Nose is citrus and medicinal hops, with a touch of spice.

Flavors are a little more muted than I expected. Nice balance, with a little rye and a solid bitter aftertaste. Texture is tight but lets the flavor out. I bet this is very solid in the summer months out of doors.

Comes in a hazy copper color with a creamy, soapy white head.
On the nose, you get tons of wildflowers like lilac and clover, with a backdrop of white peach and lemon.
On the palate you gets tons of white and green tea, lemon peel, and unripe white peach. A bit of cracker malt in the middle, with a hint of white pepper on the finish from the rye, and a lingering lemon and orange peel, green tea leaf, and some soft pine.

The mouthfeel is medium, medium carbonation, and pretty clean except for lingering dryness.

great surprise! A yeasty, sediment bomb of a rye apa at reasonable price and abv. Try 24.

A - Pours an extremelyhazy light lemony hue with clouds of sediment. Generates a one finger foamy white head that lasts, films, laces, and does all the right things in my tulip named Duvel.

S - smell offers a jammy fruit puree, pear-like, with resinous citrus and rye spice.

T - The taste follows smell, and likewise offers pear nectar like fruit, with a citrus hop, bread crust malts and an peppery rye spice.

F - mouthfeel is again pear nectar, sediment laden, fuller, and with clean peppery, cleasing finish. A nice see saw of sweet and pepper.

Up there with Dales, but completely different in a full bodied hop and sediment laden APA. Try 24. Love this brewer!

Poured into tulip glass. It pours a hazy tangerine-yellow color with a thin, milk-white head and lacing and lots of floaters. It smells of rye, lemon, and floral hops. The aroma is quite sour but pleasant. The taste features lemon grass, grapefruit, tangerine, rye, and hops. It is dry and quite bitter at the finish. This ale is medium-bodied, moderately carbonated, and drinks easily with its 5.5% ABV (per the can). Overall, this is a well-crafted and tasty APA. I think it is better suited for casual drinking but could be pared with seafood or asian cuisine. I would drink it again and would like to try it on draught.

Nice pale ale. Citrus and tropical fruits...pineapple, mango, tangerines...Lower carbonation. Rye adds a touch of spiciness to a bready malt base but does not dominate. Enjoyable pale ale.

L - Bright orange, 1 finger of head, and some sticky lace left on the glass

S - Citrus hops, and grapefruit. Of course the Rye is prevalent and provides a grainy aroma

T - Mild citrus, pineapple, and lemons. Slightly bitter aftertaste

F - Light body and medium carbonation

O - A tasty pale ale, but nothing spectacular

Pours into a nonic a hazed lemon color with a thinner but quite sticky white head atop.Citric hops standout in the nose with a bit of sharp spicy rye, some sugary sweetness in there as well.I love the big splash of sharp grapefruit and juicy tangerine up front on the palate followed by more sharpness from the rye,a sugary sweetness and doughy element is there as well.Alot of stuff packed into a beer this size, alot of hops for a "standard" pale I have to say.

Canned On: 1/31/15

Pours a pretty nice slightly cloudy golden yellow color, very nice carbonation, with a very nice thick/creamy one-finger plus white head, which leaves some sticky lacing behind. The nose is hoppy, with some pretty nice citrus. The taste is hoppy, bitter, citrusy. Medium body, with a pretty nice dry/bitter finish. Overall, a pretty tasty brew.

Murky and lightly carbonated. Bright peach and apricot flavors. Crisp and spicy finish. This beer is surprisingly lacking in aroma. I get basically nothing on the nose It reminds me heavily of whirlpool with the citrus turned down and the spice turned up. I think both of these beers would benefit from some residual sweetness.

Can poured into a snifter.

4.0 A: Fully opaque yellow brown color. One finger of frothy off-white head. Retention is pretty good and a full finger of lacing is left.

4.5 S: Very interesting. This comes out extremely herbal - chrysanthemums predominant then wildflowers and something along the like of lemongrass. That telltale earthy spiciness that rye does so well. Pithy grapefruit and orange peel. Excellent and complex.

4.5 T: Tastes like it smells. Big herbalness with all the flavors mentioned above - chrysanthemum, wildflower, lemongrass. Solid earthy spicy rye accompanies biscuit malts. Mild bitterness. Various fruit peels.

4.25 M: Medium body. Good moderate carbonation. Frothy creaminess and supremely smooth.

4.5 D: Really nice beer, I wish I bought more when I had the chance.

The One Claw Rye is a solid beer. It poured a pale yellow with white that is leaving a spotty lace. The scent carries enough pine and citrus to make it interesting. The taste is evenly balanced and easy to drink. The rye helps the beer to leave the pallet clean. The mouthfeel is lighter in body with good carbonation. Overall I thought this was really good and could session the S out of this. Definitely worth a try.

Excellent rye IPA. Enjoyed straight from the can - smooth the whole way. Crisp, rye notes followed by earthy malt with orange/lemon citrus finished with a bitter kiss. Surprisingly balanced and way too easy to drink.
